Leah ~ 8 months pregnant in the baby's room

Our friend Leah is in labor right at this very minute!  She's just about to bring a new life into the world & I'm so excited for her & her husband, Lenny!  That baby is going to be one lucky human to have those two as parents!

We are still building our fence, it's been quite the process & has taken longer than we thought, but don't most home projects go that way?  I'll post pictures once it's completed...

One last riddle clue for this month's contest ~ right here.  Can you believe it's August already?  Geez-Louise!  Chris & I are going to go down to China town tomorrow morning for Dim Sum & a look around.  I also hope we can get a canoe trip in before he heads back to work next week, but the weather hasn't been cooperating - you can smell autumn in the air, it's cooled down considerably the last week & it's been raining on & off.  I haven't torched since last Monday.  It has, indeed been a wonderful break, but I'm looking forward to getting back into my work routine.  That reminds me of a great  quote:

"If you're lucky enough to find a way of life you love,

you have to find the courage to live it!" ~ John Irving

                               Juvenile Blue Jay

This is a photo of one of the juvenile Blue Jays squawking up a storm around the yard as of late.  We have 3 of them in a family that come by almost every day to splash in the bird bath or gobble up seeds in the bird feeder.  They're clumsy & rambunctious & so much fun to watch.  My mom took this photo when she was in the yard snapping pictures of the sunflower (July Archives).  This guy sure does look like a teenager, don't you think?  A little ruffled around the edges, somewhat perturbed looking yet bold ~ total attitude!

Speaking of kids... Leah had a baby!  A baby girl they named Ruby.  I think I'll get to meet her tonight - I'm so excited!

Today we are doing some more work on the fence.   Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

Garage before demolition...

Garage during demolition...

Garage gone after demolition...

I'm totally blown away with how fast it took them to tear down our garage.  It happened in a blink of an eye.  And the strange part is, I feel a little emotional about the whole thing.  I guess, sometimes the face of "progress" ain't pretty.

I hope the crater in the back of our yard is temporary, but with this rain slowing things down, I might have to get used to this look - at least for awhile.  But in the near future there should be a new garage where all that mud is.

I've started back to work with lots of distractions slowing my "progress" down.  I hope next week is more productive.

We're off to the Edmonton Folk Festival - lots of great music to look forward to this weekend ~ thanks for stopping by!

Jasper, in all it's rugged glory

I was away last weekend on the 9th annual "All-Girls Camping Extravaganza", which has started to evolve into the "All-Girls Luxury Spa Weekend", as we've replaced tents with cabins & "roughing it" with facials & massages ~ I can't say I mind one bit!  It was a great weekend with the girls, lots of laughter & though it might have been good to spend time gazing at scenes like this one above, the weekend was filled with much more scenes like the one below ~

                           Karen & the shaky vodka

During one of our late night parties, I got the camera out.  Every picture turned out like this with the strange duplicate, fuzzy effect...I think it was the flash (*wink, wink*).

The weekend before we were at the Edmonton Folk Fest which was fantastic, thanks to good weather, incredible musicians & wonderful friends to enjoy it all with.  A shout out to our talented friends who played the folk fest this year, Michael Joseph & the Ridges.  Darren Maltais' voice is heaven sent & the lyrics to their songs are beautiful & thought-provoking.

And another incredible musician we heard was Oliver Schroer.  He played a song, which was a violin instrumental & he prefaced it with the story of its origins.  In 2004, Oliver walked 1,000 km (621 miles) from France to Spain, along the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrim road.  He carried with him a portable "recording studio" & his violin & stopped in many churches & cathedrals to record because of the acoustics, which alone paints such a beautiful picture.  When they finally arrived in the Field of Stars where legend has it, a certain Saint's bones are buried, he was moved to compose a song which he aptly named, "Field of Stars". And when he played it, he moved us all with this song that was both beautiful & ethereal.  It had the power to  make a soul weep & I may have in that moment.

                              Jeffy's Time Capsule Bead

It's been a busy stretch!  This past weekend, we went out to Chris' sister & brother-in-law's place in the country.  For each of their children (they have 4), they've decided to bury time capsules for them to open when they're adults.  This weekend we dug a big hole in their backyard & put buckets filled with newspapers, notes, books & an assortment of treasures for their son Jeffy, in them.  I also made him this bead above, which went in one of the buckets too.  I'm in no hurry for 18 years to pass, but I do think it will be very exciting when they get to open their time capsules.

I've also been learning to golf.  I'm taking lessons & I went out golfing with my mom on Saturday morning - I actually made par on one hole, which was crazy fun! Today, we went & bought some clubs for me & I'm off for a very early game tomorrow with mom...guess I'm hooked.

I've also been making beads.  This bracelet & pendant above were a special order for a friend of mine.  It's actually a gift for her mom & has been a long time in the making - I hope she likes it.

Tomorrow I start a 2 day class with one of my favorite lampwork artists ~ Andrea Guarino!  She's such a talented lady & I hear she's one of the best glass bead teachers out there so it should be a super class.  I'll have pictures to share.  Also, I haven't drawn the name for the last contest yet - I'll try to get to that this week too so stay tuned & good luck if you entered!

As always, thanks for stopping by.
