Saturday, August 6th

We are shocked & saddened by the loss of Chris' mother, Pat Robinson early on Tuesday morning.  The only condolence we have is that she died so quickly, we are sure it was without pain.

Pat loved music, flowers, her garden & bird watching in her beautiful yard.  She loved to laugh, dance, sing & hug.  But most of all, she loved her family, like no one else I knew.

And her family loved her & will miss her deeply.

There a Funeral Service at St. David's United Church at 4614 - 48 Street

in Leduc on Monday, August 8 at 1:00 p.m.

I've been struggling with what to write here since Pat passed away.

I guess, first of all, thank you for all the thoughtful emails regarding the news.  We've been so very grateful to have so many people reach out with their thoughts & hearts.

Thank you.

We had a very special funeral service for Pat.  The programs were stunning, filled with pictures of Pat & her favorite flowers.  The church was full beyond capacity with family & friends.  There were two eulogies.  One, by her son-in-law, who managed to encapsulate her essence by sharing his take on Pat's relationships with others.  His words moved the whole room.  And the other eulogy; her youngest brother told sweet & entertaining stories of when she was growing up ~ what she was like as a big sister & how she developed her close connections with family & nature.  Chris put together a beautiful slide show that was timed with some of Pat's favorite songs & her grandchildren played & sang "Lean On Me", by Bill Withers.  It was all very touching.

We've spent a lot of time with our family & friends during the last 2 & a half weeks.  It's been a time of bonding, mourning & healing & I am inspired & moved by the people I've spent this time with.

We have only just recently gotten back into a somewhat normal routine.  Of course, things will never be the same, but life must go on.

And as far as normal goes, it's not quite there either.  Our kitchen is in the midst of a major renovation.  This is what it looked like about 2 days before the renos started:

And this is what it looks like today:

Before:

Today:

It is somewhat dusty & dangerous to walk around in the house at present.  There are cords & drop clothes & bits of plaster here & there.  But, the floor is going to be put in right away so hurray for that.

We have set up a temporary kitchen in the garage.  It's kind of like camping sans the bird drop splattered picnic table that seems to be at every campsite & a cooler full of melted ice & leaked ham juice.

In fact, we aren't really roughing it at all.  We have a fridge, a coffee maker, a microwave & lots of tables for washing & prepping:

So it's not that bad, but the garage kitchen "charm" is wearing off as the days go by & I will be ecstatic to have an indoor kitchen again.

During all the upstir, we decided to paint our bathroom a metallic color.  Well actually, the plan to repaint it has been in the works for a long time.  It was just a matter of finding the right metallic tone to go with the little mosaic tiles & silver sink.  We went with warm silver & my mom came over to give me a hand.

Here's the color before, which is a pale pink:

And here it is today:

I'm absolutely in love with the brilliance of the room.  It just sparkles!

So that's what's going on around here.  I was going to give my studio a good thorough dust & clean today, but there's a guy sanding the floor right at this moment & clouds of dust floating through the hallway & into each room so it will wait at least one more day.

In the Yard:

The Angel Trumpets are perfuming the air...

The Nanking cherries are tasting sweeter than expected...

This begonia is taking people by surprise...

The peppers are being picked...

The poppies are making for pretty bouquets...

What's happening in your yard?
