Galapagos Iguana ~ Photo courtesy of
my Uncle Bill
This is how I feel right now. Do you ever need a vacation
after having a vacation?
I've
been lacking energy since we've been back. Yesterday I made
beads for a bit but felt extremely uninspired & lethargic. After
only a couple of hours I turned off the torch. I've had this problem
before; it's hard to get back into the groove after taking some time
off. Somebody emailed me today and asked, "so what's next for
you?". Good question - my focus has been on the Tucson show for
so long. Now that it's over, I feel a little lost, like I need
something else to motivate me, but I should enjoy this time & take the
opportunity to experiment, play, grow...
Last night my mom took "her girls" out for a spa treatment.
Twice a year, she takes her other 2 daughters Nancy & Pam, along with
Pam's daughter, Brandy & myself out to the spa to celebrate our
birthdays & Christmas. We bring wine & snacks along (last night
we ate sushi, crackers & cheese, fruit & granola cookies). I
received a deep moisturizing facial, which I think I needed after
being in the desert for 2 weeks. How dreamy! Why, oh why,
do I not go to the spa everyday?
Oh
right, it's expensive.
I will
be in touch with all of you that have emailed me. I just need a
day or two to go through them. Have a super weekend! |

What? Tomorrow is Valentine's day?
It hadn't even crossed my mind until I saw someone else mention it on
their website today ~ gulp. You know, with my birthday (January
24th) & our anniversary (February 2nd) just past & of course Christmas
& New Year's - by February 14th, I'm kind of spent with all the
celebrations. Perhaps we'll stay in tomorrow & I'll make a
special dinner instead. That's about all I'm up for & the fact
that Chris' alarm goes off at 4:30 a.m. to get up for work the next
day makes for an early night.
I'm working on taxes today - tomorrow
I'll torch for a bit. And Wednesday we start our dance lessons -
two step, west coast swing & "night club"(?). Looking forward to
it.
Below, something fun. I posted this
last year at this time, but incase you're new to this site & haven't
rummaged around in my
archives yet, this might be something you haven't seen before.
This will put a little humor into the day.

Take a peek inside... |

Birds!

A tornado of birds! Perhaps over 1000 of them!

What kind of birds flock in such huge numbers around here? Why, Bohemian Waxwings do. As the
winter wears on, the flocks grow bigger & bigger. Last winter, in
Edmonton, there was a count of over 7000 of them! And
this winter, I believe the count is as high or even higher.
Hundreds & hundreds of them zoomed into my yard to pick the berries off the Mountain
Ash tree, but they hardly got to any of them before I ran out with
such excitement that I scared them off ~ whoosh, just like that they
flew up again, making high-pitched trills & zigzagging across the sky.
Did you know that they are named
"Bohemian" because of the nomadic movements of the winter flocks,
which refers to the unconventional, gypsy lifestyle of the
inhabitants of Bohemia? Or that when the end of a twig holds a supply of berries that
only one bird at a time can reach, members of a flock may line up
along the twig and pass berries beak to beak down the line so that
each bird gets a chance to eat? Pretty cool!

My Uncle Bill & Aunt Dorothy moved from
Edmonton to Victoria 2 years ago. So right now in Victoria the
cherry trees are exploding with blossoms & the robins are playing in
their backyard fountain. In Edmonton, we're expecting another 2 or
3 centimeters of snow today... Do you think my Uncle Bill was
rubbing it in when he sent me this photo?
Day 3 of the "cold from hell". Today the
fever & chills have subsided, but my head is very congested.
Last night, I forced myself to make beads & I'm glad I did, it took my
mind off my cold - well a little bit. I also got all the
packages out to the post office yesterday, so if you bought something
from me, you'll be seeing it soon. Tonight we have our dance
lesson. I hope
I have the energy to go. |

has done it again. Have you gone to visit them lately? |

Friday ~ February 24th

One of our most well
known bars here in Edmonton is shutting it's doors & moving to a new
location & the building that has hosted live music on a nightly basis
for 25 years will be destroyed. In it's place, yet another condo
development will appear. The Sidetrack café was designed like a
railway station complete with an attached caboose. It's a cozy
place with an amazing musical history & a consistent charm that I can
only hope they will restore in the new place. Needless to say,
I'm a little sad to see it go... Doors shut on Monday & the
original
Sidetrack will be no more.
On the home front, I am finally starting to feel better. There's
still a residue of symptoms - my throat hasn't totally healed, I have
a mild headache, my nose is a bit stuffy, but overall, I feel like the
worst has come & gone - phew. Hope you all have a wonderful
weekend, thanks for stopping by. |

Monday ~ February 27th

They came back! Those
hungry
Bohemian Waxwings whisked into our yard & gobbled up the berries on
the Mountain Ash. It was amazing! I even saw an albino
Bohemian, slurping up snow on the garage roof. Click on the
photo to see more of the event.
On a sad note, we went to Chris' Aunt Vivian's funeral this weekend.
She died, far too young, of cancer. There were over 500 people
at her funeral. She was deeply loved by so many & she was
nonjudgmental, loving, generous & talented. It is a sorrowful
thing to lose another to cancer. As many of you know, the Bead
Tree donates a portion of our profits to cancer research. I want
to thank you all for your support. Maybe one day in our lifetime
we won't have to lose anymore loved ones to this terrible disease. |
