Every morning I put peanuts out on the
deck to lure the Blue Jays. And every morning, they fly up onto
the pergola & then dive down for their treat.
Shooooom...
This is Elvis. He's a regular & he
sure does like his peanuts, thank ya, thank ya very much. Oh
those little stick legs might look delicate, but somehow they manage
to keep him upright. It's one of the many miracles of nature.
So why do I do this every morning?
You guessed it.
For those poor "cooped-up-inside-all-winter"
kitties. Gives them something interesting to look at from behind
the glass screen.
Of course, I like to look out too. And
Yesterday, it was so beautiful outside. All the trees were covered in frost ~
just magical.
And if you look closely, over by those
hanging suet bags...
Do you see him?
Wait, he'll move...
Yep, there he is:
A Northern Flicker! Cool.
Thursday ~ January 7th
Ah, how pretty are you?! So slim,
so elegant, so smart & the phone isn't too shabby either.
Chris
& I got iPhones for Christmas and they are amazing, just amazing.
Honestly, we are in a phase of serious infatuation with them at
present & worse, we've become those people that constantly text each
other. There's just something about a brand-new, shiny thing
that makes it hard to resist.
Do you have one? If so, when do you
quit opening it up just because it's so darn cool to look at? Or
quit texting people that are in the same room as you because it's so
fun? Or quit taking it to bed to play one last game of Peggle or
Paper Toss, which is never one last game anyway?
Speaking of brand-new, shiny things ~ I
will have all the Bread Pudding Bead orders complete as of tonight!
So for those just waiting for Bread Pudding Beads, they will be out in
the mail tomorrow.
So I finally took the plunge & bought the
expensive lens that I've been holding out buying for over a year.
I really don't know how to run it yet, but I'm trying.
Like the other day, when I was walking by
the hallway I saw this:
What do we have here? Maggie's got
a cozy, new spot on the mat in the bathroom right next to the
register. This could make a good photo.
So soft, so comfy...
I'll just get in a little closer and try
not to disturb her.
Oh-oh, she's awake, let's get out of here
before...
Shoot, she's behind me, it's going to
happen, I can just tell...
Drats! The flop! Must resist
kitty belly.
But that persistent glare.
Please pet me, please?!
Sorry Maggie, I'm trying to figure out
this lens, gotta move on. Hmm, where's my other kitty?
There you are Nu.
No, no, please don't get up. Just
stay there & look into the lens...
Excellent.
Oh such a serious stare. Relax,
loosen up, give me a different look?
Squinty-eyes? Well, I guess that
will do.
Alright ~ enough for today, back to work,
I go.
Tuesday ~
January 12th
This was the sunrise Sunday morning,
outside our front door, which ushered in some beautifully, warm
weather. So nice has it been, that I've got a serious case of
spring fever, scary when you consider it's only January. Still,
the reprieve is wonderful.
An update on the beads: I sent off
another 6 packages today. I'm one day away from starting on the
purple orders; at which point I will make lots of purple beads so I
can make the best matching sets possible. If you're wondering
about your bead status, please don't hesitate to email me at
carrie@beadtree.net.
Wednesday ~ January 13th
Still suffering from spring fever. I've got it bad. I
think seeing these every time I walk into the kitchen isn't helping.
My mom brought me them over on the
weekend. I was shocked! I don't remember ever
being able to get tulips in January before?
They are so sweet & so vibrant. I can hardly wait to see my own
popping up in the yard...
but that won't be until May, *sigh*.
This
year's
Spring Collection is also sweet & vibrant. When I'm
done the orders, I'll be checking back on it for a little inspiration
for beads.
Friday ~ January 15th
I was driving home from tap class the
other night when this song came on the radio (a classic, well for me,
from the eighties).
This weekend, on a whim, Chris & I took off into the
woods by our house to go
geocaching. Have you ever been?
It's so much fun! Chris put a geocaching application on his iPhone
so we went out to test it.
We went down into the ravine & walked
along the creek searching for the treasure.
It's kind of exciting to walk on an iced creek
bed. There's something about being able to go where you're not
really supposed to be able to go that adds to the enjoyment of it all. Off the beaten track, walking
on water, frozen only for a season. Come summer, we'll need hip
waders to walk this path.
Here's Chris checking the coordinates.
And me, about to climb over a fallen log.
We got so carried away following the creek that we ended up far away
from the cache & out of time. Instead we had to hurry back home
~ we'll just have to try again another time.
Tuesday ~ January 19th
This weekend, my sister Pam hosted a brunch so mom & I brought our
cameras over to get some shots of the girls wearing some of our silk
neckties. I wanted to show you how lovely they look on:
Here's my sister Nancy sporting her million dollar smile & a turquoise
necktie ~ the big color for Spring 2010.
And my sister Pam, looking pretty and sweet in a smoky charcoal tie,
which matches her outfit perfectly.
My beautiful niece Mere, wearing a hot pink & orange tie.
And my other beautiful niece Katie, with a warm orange, olive & yellow
tie.
We didn't have a lot of time for the photo shoot (we were busy eating
& visiting). But there are other ways to wear them & so many
different colors that I'm sure there's one perfect for each & every
woman interested. At some point this Spring, we should have
several stock photos up on the website to show people how the ties
look.

Today...
The scene outside my window.
The scene inside my head.
Thursday ~ January 21st
Sometimes, you just need a little break from the news...
That's what I'm doing this morning.
Stringing beads & packaging them up while listening to Vampire
Weekend's new c.d.
Contra,
which I am really, really liking.
Life can be so delightful at times.
All you wonderful ladies awaiting your
beads, they'll be dropped off at the post office later today. My
goal to get the "purps" done last weekend was delayed due to my
birthday & all the revelry & sobriety that comes with turning another
year older. I do apologize, but I hope the wait is worth it for
you.

My Birthday Quilt ~
I received a very special present on Saturday. A wonderful,
handmade quilt:
Doesn't matter which angle you look at it, it's stunning...
A feast for the eyes...
A wonderful burst of colours...
With lots of soft, textured patterns.
And so many shapes including squares, triangles, trapezoids &
rectangles; all beautifully patched together to create a... (I'm really
trying to stop myself from saying this but I can't help myself) a
rainbow, blankety hug. And (here I go again),
I sleep snug as a bug in a rug under it.
This is Skye, the maker of the quilt. Doesn't she just radiate with goodness?
Thank you Skye, I love it so!
By the way, I don't know if Skye
is interested in custom orders, but I do know she has an amazing knack
for quilting & she loves creating so if you're interested in something
like this for yourself or someone you know,
email me & I'll get you in touch with her.
Thursday ~ January 28th
Birthday Balloons from sweet Pam
Off on a mini adventure. A little
break from the beads to celebrate my birthday (yet again) & our
anniversary. Back after the weekend.
