HAPPY CANADA DAY to all my fellow Canadians.  Normally, Chris & I would cruise down the river on a canoe to celebrate, but this year we're in the yard digging a trench & building a deck.  I'll take some pictures of the garage, it's up!

Tuesday ~ July 3rd

Presenting our garage... a year in the making.  We are thrilled!  Everything is coming together now.  I think the landscapers should be in by the end of the week too!

Thursday ~ July 5th

Hey Chris ~ "orange" you glad it's your birthday today?  I sure am!

Happy Birthday bunny!

Sunday ~ July 8th

The fun never ends around here!  I would like to smack the guy who told us it would take about 2 hours to jackhammer out the cement pad in our backyard - it's been 2 days & we're only half done!  Guess what we're doing today?

Sorry for the lack of news around here - I'm back to making beads tomorrow.  I don't know if I'll have anything for sale soon, but I should have some eye candy nonetheless.

Hope you're enjoying a quieter weekend then we are.  Onwards!

Wednesday ~ July 11th

Ken Held, the guy in the front row on the far left, put up some awesome pictures of the Grand Canyon trip on his website ~ this was one of my favorites because it's of the whole group of us.  If you click on the picture, it will take you directly to the photos I posted about our trip (incase you missed it the first time) & if that just isn't enough for you, my Uncle's photos are fabulous & can be explored here

I'm having a really good time making beads the last week.  The ones coming out of the kiln, I've been affectionately calling "wishing stone beads".  They're random & sparkly & larger than my normal beads & they feel like wonderful treasures when you hold them in your hands; like glass stones to wish upon...

I'm wishing our yard was finished.  Alas, it is not.  What are you wishing for?

Friday ~ July 13th

It's 4 in the morning ~ the sky is rumbling & it's so darn hot here that I just can't sleep.  So why not an update?

Above, a picture of the "wishing stone" beads I had mentioned earlier.  It's been way too hot to make beads the last few days & next week is supposed to be a scorcher as well.  I'm anxious to get back to the torch though & explore this more random style again.  In the meantime, Chris & I have been working up a storm in the backyard & we've got icy cold water in the hot tub that we've been wading in to cool off in the late afternoons.  It sure helps a lot!

The heat has delayed the landscapers too, which is probably a good thing.  Who wants fresh sod laid when it's 34C (93F) degrees out?  Not to mention that we're still scrambling to get things ready for them.  Soon though, things are really happening around here & I can start to see the results of all this hard work coming into reality, it's terribly exciting!

Tuesday ~ July 17th

Above, a couple of key chains I made on the weekend.  I strung these together while Chris & I watched Lord of the Rings ~ I gave Chris the trilogy for his birthday.  I also strung a few more sets of beads, but I want to add to that before I have a sale & I will be selling some of the "wishing stone" beads for those asking... stay tuned!

It's still really hot & uncomfortable here.  The house is holding the heat in & it makes it hard to want to be inside, let alone torch.

Tomorrow morning, mom & I are going to do a bead demo & jewelry making class for some children that are in a summer school program.  I'm looking forward to it; I like the way kids get excited when you pull molten glass, lots of oohs & aahs.

Friday ~ July 20th

Tons of action here today.  The irrigation people are hooking up the underground sprinkler system & the landscapers are here too raking out the yard & they're just about to lay sod, beautiful new sod!  This morning, I marked out garden bed lines with landscaper paint.  It's really exciting when you can start to visualize what the yard is going to look like.  I found it hard to imagine when I put the plan down on paper, but drawing out the borders where trees, shrubs, decks & flowers are going really helped conceptualize what it will look like.

My mom & I went to see Harry Potter last night at the theater ~ a wonderful place to go when it's hot out (& it was) because the air conditioning is guaranteed to be blasting.  I really liked the movie, though I had heard from a few people that it was too dark.  In university, I had to read Harry Potter for one of my Children's Lit. classes.  That was right at the beginning of all the mad hysteria over Harry Potter.  To be honest, I didn't really care for the book.  Instead, I was much more taken by Philip Pullman's, The Golden Compass, which was another required read for that class.  So I never bothered reading any of the other Harry Potter books, but I've seen all the movies & have enjoyed them all.  A cool thing, there was a movie advertisement for The Golden Compass, coming out later this year, now that should be exciting!

Sunday ~ July 22nd

Doesn't this photo just capture the essence of summer?  I think Kathleen Connally's photography is some of the best out there!

My mom, Judy & I are off for a week long course two hours south of here in Red Deer.  We are taking a Precious Metal Clay (PMC) class & will be back late Friday.  I have emails to reply to & I will, once I get back.  I promise I haven't forgotten you.

Hope you have a fabulous week!  I'll have pictures & stories to share soon.
