HAPPY CANADA DAY to all my fellow Canadians.  Normally, Chris & I would cruise down the river on a canoe to celebrate, but this year we're in the yard digging a trench & building a deck.  I'll take some pictures of the garage, it's up!

Wednesday ~ July 2nd

Well, well, well, if it isn't me showing up here after all this time... hehe.

What can I say, I've been a bit busy but I thought that I better update you on a few things:

First, today was "Weigh In Wednesday" & I dropped 1.2 pounds.  I have 2.4 pounds to lose before my goal of 25 pounds by July 15th.  I'm a little nervous about making it in time as these last 3 weeks I've been at a stand still, mostly because my regular routine has gone haywire since the start of summer.  Hope I can do it...

It was Canada Day yesterday & instead of canoeing like we originally planned, Chris & I worked in the yard.  We received a large rock delivery & between that & an area of the yard that needed fencing we decided we better keep working instead.  That said, we did get a chance to go canoeing for the Solstice (June 20th) & I never did post pictures so here ya go:

                      My fearless (& congenial) Captain!

Shipmates Emmett looking festive like an Egyptian dancer

& Ella looking fierce like a Caribbean pirate.

A stunning sunset late in the evening.

I long for the next trip...

And here are pictures of our set up from our Open House.

                              A table full of goodies

Even the rooster got dolled up!

By the way, thank you to everyone that came out to the house, we had a very enjoyable day & appreciate your interest!

                         Nuthatches make me happy!

We have baby nuthatches in our tree.  Can you make out the hole where the arrow is pointing?  They're in there!  They make cute noises when mom or dad comes in with a grubby little bug.  I can't wait to see them start poking their little heads out!

Incase you've never seen one, this is what they look like.

It's Chris' birthday on Saturday so I'm busy getting ready for that but I'll be back within a week & will be posting some jewelry here for sale for the people that couldn't make it & for the people that just don't live anywhere near here.  Stay tuned!

And finally, this was on Cute Overload today, I just love it!  Don't forget to crank up the Whitney!

Saturday ~ July 5th

I took some before & after shots of the front of the house.  The first picture is from last June & the second picture is from today:

What a difference, eh?

And a closer look at the rock garden, this next picture is what the rock garden looked like when we first bought the house.  That garbage bag in the picture was full of weeds.  The picture below this one is what it looks like today (3 years later):

Ironically, when we first bought the house I was going to sod the rock garden, but had a change of heart.  Instead it has only gotten much bigger & I'm glad because it gets extremely hot there, lawn wouldn't have favored too well, but rocks sure do.  It's also amazing how much bigger it looks, there's some sort of optical illusion at play.

And you might remember that I was in search for a star for our garage.  Well, one was found & we hung it up on the weekend:

I spray painted it black (it was purply-brown originally).  I really like it, thanks Jena!

We celebrated Chris' birthday on Saturday with a barbeque in the backyard.  It's the first time we've had people over in a very long time because of all the construction around here & it was a lot of fun!  I'm looking forward to more parties, finally the rewards of all our hard work are starting to pay off, but we're not done yet.  Next we tackle a rock wall... does anyone out there have any advice?  I would love to hear from you at carrie@beadtree.net

Wednesday ~ July 9th

                                           Lilies in the yard

I'm stranded without a car today, so no weigh in.  Chris' truck broke down last week & he's been using my car to get to work while his is in the shop.  Things should be back to normal by Friday.  Regardless, I *think* I'm down another pound so if I really stay on track this next week I should reach the 25 pound goal in time!

I've just started taking photos of jewelry.  It's been raining all morning, but now the skies are starting to clear so the lighting is better.  I hope to have some items available very soon, maybe tomorrow so please come back if you're interested.

More Before & After shots of the yard:

                                    Our backyard July 2008

We still have a lot of work to do, but it's nice to see the progress.  It's also nice to have privacy after an entire winter without a garage or back fence, that was tough.  I'll take more photos as things progress.

Question:  Do you know of any really good audio books, something that both Chris & I would like.  Maybe an excellent Classic, or a great comedy, definitely nothing too depressing... please email me any suggestions you might have, thank you!

Also, some people haven't been able to get through to my email address.  If you've been expecting to hear from me & haven't, send me an email to carriehamilton@canada.com & I'll get back to you.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Wednesday ~ July 16th

Look what I picked up today.  It's a Weight Watchers key chain with a symbolic 25 lb weight on it.  I made my 3 month goal!  In fact, I "crushed" it by one whole pound.  As of today I'm down 26 pounds from when I started the Core program in April.  I have to tell you, I wasn't expecting it.  I don't know why every week I'm so surprised that I'm losing weight, but I am.  I guess because I don't feel like I'm going without at all  so it seems strange to be satisfied & still be getting results.  Not the way I used to diet for sure.

Now it's time to set a new goal.  I'm thinking, maybe another 10 pounds by the time we leave for SQUAM in September.

Monday ~ July 21st

My aunt mentioned that I should "change the picture [on my website], it's been awhile." Yeah, no kidding... Here you go Auntie, a picture of me with Miss Maggie.

We had friends over so I haven't been anywhere near the computer, which is a good thing.  The weather was glorious over the weekend & it was very nice to spend the entire time outside soaking up the sunshine, playing croquet & Scrabble, sipping drinks, crackin' jokes & catching up.  Isn't that what summer is all about, enjoying the outdoors with friends?

Looking out my back door.

Wednesday ~ July 23rd

We are off to the Pemberton Festival.  I am especially excited to see:

Tom Petty & The Heart Breakers

The Tragically Hip

Vampire Weekend

Coldplay

Sam Roberts

Wintersleep

But I also hope to discover some new favorite bands too.  I'll be back in a little bit with stories & photos from our adventures.

In the meantime, check out this awesome video from the Los Angeles Museum.  I would have loved to have been there to see it, it looks so real!

I still have some beautiful jewelry for sale if you're interested ~ here.

And speaking of jewelry, I think my friends Rosey & Tricia are having a competition for biggest Bead Tree jewelry collection.  Check out these photos of their goodies:

Tricia's collection (she goes into more detail on her blog about her *addiction*).

Rosey's collection & she mentioned that 2 of her new bracelets aren't in the photo.

I love these girls, thanks for your enthusiasm & support!

Finally, I'll leave you with a video from Vampire Weekend, A-Punk.  See ya in a bit!
