Thursday ~ July 1st

Happy Canada Day, fellow Hosers!

Friday ~ July 2nd

This is my little niece, Chelsey many moons ago.  She was so sweet, so cute!

I can hardly believe it, but on Tuesday, Chelsey graduated from high school!

She's turned out to be such a radiant woman.

Congratulations Chelsey, here's to your future!

Monday ~ July 5th

We threw a party on Saturday to celebrate both my sweetie, Chris' birthday & my brother, Bruce's birthday.

We had a barbeque & invited guests...

There were proud moms,

And moms to be.

There were happy papas,

And loveable babies.

There were cute kids,

And good friends,

Sweet nieces,

And family.

When it got dark out, we announced to the guests to come to the front yard for a show:

It ain't a party until the cops show up, right?  They were making sure we had a fireworks permit, which we did so they left.

The spent fireworks

Today is Chris' actual birthday...

Chris' Marty Robbins impression with his new beer holster.

Happy Birthday Bunny!  Thanks for making our life together so much fun!

Thursday ~ July 8th

My yard, along with 5 others, will be featured in a Garden Tour Saturday to raise funds for a cure for cancer.  If you would like to participate, all you have to do is purchase a ticket through this link.  Then come out & see some beautifully landscaped yards!  Here's more details:

Awesome Blossom Garden Tour for the Cure

July 10th, Saturday from 10-3 p.m

 Tickets $10 each

Six yards will be featured, each with something special to inspire & delight!

A Garden For All Seasons ~ A do-it-yourself yard that will take your breath away with its design for year round appeal.  Shady pergolas, a woodsy fire pit, sunny patios & a hot tub all overlook a lush & colorful garden.

A Vacation in the City ~ Enjoy the charm & comfort of country living in the heart of the city.  Visit a large, secluded yard near the ravine with mature trees, fountains, gorgeous hanging baskets & an area perfect for outdoor entertaining.

Rustic Charm ~ What began as a steep hill has been transformed with big dreams & a little hard work.  Sculpted river rock walls wind through the backyard of a perennial gardener's dream.  Flagstone walkways invite you to explore.

Secret Suburban Oasis ~ Hidden amongst a new development is a magical retreat.  You will be amazed to discover a backyard bursting with life including a vast array of trees, shurbs, perennials, vegetables & annuals mixed with an artistic eye.

Ange's Garden ~ An ever-changing work of art with a cottage style perennial garden full of hidden treasures!

Eclectic Comfort ~ "If I like it, I plant it.  If it doesn't flourish, it's compost!"  Brilliant philosophy from a gardener who created a lush, comfortable space in a large pie shaped lot.

Here's the link again.  Hope to see you!

Friday ~ July 16th

Summer Update...

We went canoeing on the longest day of the year.

The sky was fantastic that night!

We built a pond

 & put fish in it.

Luckily Maggie hasn't noticed the fish.  Perhaps she's more beauty than brains?

We had the best tasting chocolate cake.  Our friends brought it over from the new bake shop in town called Duchess.  If you ever want a very special, very decadent cake, trust me, this cake is for you.

I went to aquacizes for the first time on Wednesday.

After a cake like that, it was the least I could do.

I'll spare you the picture.

The hops are thriving.

The begonias are happy too.

The peonies are spent, but they were sure pretty while they bloomed.

These peonies were a gift from Chris' mom.  It was one of the nicest bouquets I have ever received.  Thank you Pat.

On Monday, we had several branches removed from our neighbor's tree.  It was fun to watch the guy climb up like a monkey.

This was my yard an hour before some judges from the Edmonton Horticultural Society popped by to take a look at things.  Kind of scary, but they cleaned it up pretty good.

By the way, our yard will be on the EHS tour next weekend.  Here's a link if you want to go on it.  Needless to say, I have some work to do!  Many perennials took a beating from the falling branches, but I'm so happy to have that big messy limb gone.  Now my trees & shrubs have more light & room to grow.

We got our new front door put in on Monday too.  It was a busy day around here!

I will show pictures when it's painted.  I'm going with purple.

And finally, I made new beads!  Inspired by my class with Melanie.  They don't have a name yet.  Any suggestions would be helpful?

How's your summer going?

Tuesday ~ July 20th

Just a reminder that our garden (front & back) will be on the Edmonton Horticultural Society Tour this weekend.  $10 gets you access to 12 gardens around Edmonton this Saturday & Sunday from 10 -4 p.m.

You can pick up your tickets at Apache Seeds, Arch Greenhouses, Ellerslie Gift & Garden Centre, Salisbury Greenhouse or Wellington Garden Centre.

Here's a link for more information.

Hope to see you!

Thursday ~ July 22nd

Thank you for all the awesome suggestions for the new beads.  They are now named.

We went with Supernova!  The plural being Supernovae, but that doesn't sound as cool, kind of like when you say cacti for the plural of cactus & though you know it's right, it's just sort of lame to say...  So lets just stick to Supernova.

Here's what a Supernova looks like incase you missed that day in astrology... err... astronomy class:

It's a star that, before it collapses, shines it's very brightest.

I think it's a good fit ~ Supernova medallions, what do you think?

And guess what?!  We will have some available this weekend!  We are setting up a little Bead Tree jewelry sale in my backyard during the tour.

Feel free to stop by to see the garden & check out the jewelry.  If you're only visiting my place, admission is free!  Email me if you're interested & I'll give you directions.
