Mom on the beach
near Punta de
Mita ~ Mexico 2008
Hey Mom, Happy Birthday
Beautiful!

Tuesday ~ March 4th

Maggie spent the entire weekend flopped
out on the furniture looking relaxed & content. I too, was
flopped out on the furniture, but I was definitely not relaxed, nor
content. Instead, I was in a semi comatose state
due to an intense fever. After dealing with a head cold for a
week, I thought I had used up all my sick days this year, so when
Chris
started getting chills last Wednesday, I didn't think I was
susceptible... I was wrong. Today however, I am feeling so much
better, but if you want to come over & make me
this, I would love you forever. |

Monday ~ March 10th

O.k., I'm done another set ~ the "Madrid"
beads. I should have them packaged & out in the mail tomorrow or
the next day. I think I'm going to work on the Alexandria sets
next.
Yesterday was the first full day of work
that I actually had the energy for since getting sick. I think
this flu has finally flown the coop, & in it's place a serious case of
Spring Fever has popped up. Today is my last day of yoga & I'm
wondering if I should register for the spring session or just leave it
until September. Though it's premature to envision golfing &
gardening every morning, that's exactly what I'm dreaming about... how
about you? |

Wednesday ~ March 12th

The other night after dinner,
Chris
& I went
down to the river to see if it had thawed to the point where the ice
chunks were crashing into the bridge. We are obviously a couple
weeks early, but it's nice to see the open gap in the middle of the
river.
Not a great deal to report.
I've been working & when I haven't been working, I've been walking
around outside enjoying the sunshine & the stretch.
I did find
a really cool link that talks about whole foods & how they
resemble human organs or physiological functions & how they also
benefit those organs & functions that they resemble. For example,
a walnut look like a miniature
brain & in actuality, it helps with brain functions, cool.
Oh & did you catch this kitty on
Cute Overload?
He cracks me up!

Friday ~ March 14th

Fruit at Granville Market, Vancouver
I used to juggle a lot when I lived overseas, usually while waiting
for some sort of transportation (train, ferry, bus, car...), but I was
never as good as
this guy (make sure to turn the volume up).
He's the World Champion. |

Sunday ~ March 16th

National Geographic
When I see a picture of a girl on a
horse, I immediately identify with it, as if the image captures a
perfect representation of my youth. Of course that's not
accurate, my youth was filled with a much more complicated mosaic of
experiences, but I did spend a lot of time with horses.
I took riding lessons for years & in the
process, bonded with the horses I rode. I admired their strength
& gentleness, their power & restraint. I also began to
discover that in their inner core, deep in the heart of any horse, is
a wild nature, centuries of domesticity has calmed but not
extinguished.
I think we possess this same nature.
We too start out with wild hearts, that are quieted over time. But under layers of expectations, behind social roles &
obligations, our hearts still pound with raw passion, they're still open to
the unexpected & excited just to be alive.
I want to be closer to the girl that I
was on the horse, who looked out at the abyss as if she knew she was
really looking out at her future which was unsure & unwritten, yet so
full of possibilities. She was a smart, little cookie; she was
o.k. in her skin. She rode with the wild ones & understood them.
What is your wild heart telling you?

Tuesday ~ March 18th

Yeah, it's St. Patty's Day! And my friend Tricia's birthday -
Happy Birthday Tricia! We don't have any plans tonight because
it's an early morning for
Chris tomorrow, but I do intend to wear
green when I go out today to ship off the Alexandria beads, all of
which are done ~ see above picture. Today, I start the "Fall of
Rome" series. |

Thursday ~ March 20th

Happy Spring Equinox! The geese are
starting to come back & I am thrilled! My friend Lori, her
daughter Ella & I went for a walk to the river this morning & though
it was a wee bit chilly, it was nice to be out to welcome Spring!
Hope you have a wonderful day. |

& I are having our immediate families over for brunch tomorrow.
That makes for 16 spots around the table... I think we're going to
need more tables. Should be fun!

Wednesday ~ March 26th

Check out this painting my mom did!
It's part of a collaborative piece we are working on, I'll
tell you more about it when it's done, but isn't it cool!? She
incorporated some of the silk tie bead dangles into the painting ~ the
cockatoo is perched on them like she's riding a giant, glass bead
carousel, whee!
In search of any life, I walked around
the front & back garden last night. Mostly, I came across
litter: from the Blue Jays plenty of peanut shells sprinkled the
proximity & from the bunnies, a decent distribution of
droppings ~ I guess it's good for the grass. But
I did see the very beginning tips of tulips by the house so
there is promise that the garden is going to green up soon. I'm
really anxious to get some new trees, a Cherry for
Chris &
maybe a Columnar Birch for me.
I'm starting a new Yoga class at
Solis
tomorrow. If you live in Edmonton & like yoga, they have a
really wonderful instructor there named Ann. She does several
classes through the week & I highly recommend her. |

Friday ~ March 28th

Moving right along, I'm starting the Carousel beads this weekend
& the Fall of Rome sets (featured above) are finished & will be
in the post this
morning, yeehaw!
A shout out to my mother-in-law, HAPPY
BIRTHDAY PAT!
Chris & I
are going for lunch today with her & some other family members & we
might sneak in a game or two at the bowling alley near the restaurant.
A video for you (via
Jen
Gray) and another video that I've received via emails & have
seen on many sites now. I guess it's my time to share,
Jill Bolte Taylor on TED ~ enjoy. |

Saturday ~ March 29th

Remember, Earth Hour is tonight, lights
off from 8:00 to 9:00
p.m. I'll be participating, how about you? |
|
Sunday ~ March 30th

Crocuses
Last night,
Chris & I went for a walk
during
Earth Hour. There seemed to be more people on the
street walking around too, were they also participating? There
were houses with the curtains wide open that were pitch dark inside &
even my neighbors unplugged the lights that have twinkled around their
apple tree, day & night since before Christmas. It was kind of
exciting to be a part of this collective statement. It reminded
me of what an old boyfriend told me about 15 years ago when the
environment was only just starting to become a concern for many.
He said "this earth is an amazing organism. If everyone on the
planet agreed to not drive their cars for one day on the same day, the
earth would have the chance to renew itself." I don't know where
he got that information or if it's true, but I never forgot it.
This glorious earth of ours is in a constant state of healing &
replenishing, what if we didn't tax it so much, even for just a little
while?
Perhaps voluntarily turning off the
lights for an hour might not be the same as a global ban on driving
for a day & it might not of put much of a dent in this dilemma, but
it's a start & down the road these types of movements might just make
a world of difference.
