Monday ~ March 1st

Meet Sheila!  She's my brother's new puppy & she's the sweetest thing.

Bruce with his new addition.  So cute.

We're all smitten with Sheila.  How could you not be?  She's got freckles on her little legs & she works those puppy eyes all the time.

And the wavy fur on her ears even match my niece, Alexis' hair!

It was great to discover this chart today after talking about this very subject on the weekend!

So how would you describe the colors on this striped blanket then?

Chris: "ah, some blue, green, orange, with red & white."

Me:  "well, there's the shades of teal, white, burgundy, sienna, forest green, taupe, peach, soft brown, steel gray, cinnamon, mustard yellow, auburn, sky blue & teddy bear brown."

Wednesday ~ March 3rd

I want to be here right now.  When winter drags on, I look at pretty patio pictures online to keep my spirits up.  This one, in particular, is exceptionally pretty.

But truly, I can't complain.  The weather has been above normal, the days are getting longer & the only thing better than Spring is the anticipation of Spring. It's all about perspective, which reminds me of this statement:

"We can complain because rose bushes have thorns,

or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses." ~ Abraham Lincoln

Sunday ~ March 7th

I love OK Go & I'm so glad they didn't stop their quirky, clever videos with Here It Goes Again

A little behind the scenes talk about the video.

Monday ~ March 8th

Friday was the deadline for all of us who are participating in the McMullen Gallery show to get our jewelry & beads in.  In my scramble to put our package together, I took photos quite late in the day so they turned out way too dark.  When I was kindly given an extension until the next day, I took photos again, but it was still too dark out because of the early morning light so the photos were washed out and rather dull.

I was really excited to show you the whole series, 27 pieces in total, but most of the photos just don't capture the life of the jewelry.  I'll show you a few photos anyway, but please keep in mind that in person, these are much more sparkly & vibrant.

This is bracelet & earring set above is part of the "Blue Sky Above The Garden" series (all of our series had to do with the garden).  The beads have gold foil, goldstone & silver mesh.  They are mysterious, elegant & wonderful to wear.

A necklace with handmade glass beads, agate & Bali silver stones.  This is part of our "Cherry Blossoms In The Garden" series & it's really a delightful necklace to wear.  I'm going to make some more beads in the gold, pink, purple & white & ask mom to make me a necklace similar to this one because I fell in love with it, which made it hard to let it go.

A bracelet & matching earrings, again from the "Cherry Blossoms In The Garden" series.   The earrings are very sweet & the bracelet is pretty, spring like & feels great on.

I will put up a reminder of when the show starts at the end of the month, incase you are interested in coming to the gallery to see them in person along with all the other glass beads & jewelry that will be there.

Tuesday ~ March 9th

Some of my beads in the museum in Montreal

I should mention that the exhibit at the Musée des maîtres et artisans du Québec is now on (if you click on the link, one of my beads is in the picture at the top left!).

It's actually been running since March 4th & will go until April 11th so if you happen to visit, I would love & appreciate to hear or see (via photos) how it all looks.

One of the assistants working on the exhibition in Montreal sent me some photos of the displays this morning.

I was totally surprised to see that the show was in a cathedral.  But what a beautiful backdrop with the stained glass windows!  And don't you love that they are having a glass display in a glass house (well a partial glass house)?

One of my displays is in the middle there.  Can't see, oh, well here's a close up:

The beads look small again, but trust me, they're huge, giant, monstrous!  Perhaps, when they come back, you'll want to get one for yourself to see how big they really are?

Sunday ~ March 14th

Canada Goose ~ photo courtesy of my mom, Judy

I've been spying small flocks of geese & ducks the last week, flying over the prairies to the east.  It's always such a happy sight for me.

Chris & I also spotted a robin on Friday in the park.  The first one of the season, calling out in that familiar song.  If you have a cat, play the calls when they're in the room, it's funny.  Any signs of spring in your neck of the woods?

Monday ~ March 15th

How exciting, a new color for 'Annabelle' Hydrangeas ~ Pink!  And Proven Winners goal is to raise a million dollars towards breast cancer research by donated a dollar for every plant sold.  Awesome!

I thought I should put something green up here & lucky too, although I can't spot a four leaf clover in this photo, can you?

St. Patty's Day!  I love St. Patty's Day!  Too bad it's not Friday today.  Chris goes to bed really early on the weekdays & I have tap tonight, so no green beer for us, but I am keeping in the spirit of things by making Irish stew.  I'm going to cook it slow all day.

Happy Birthday Flanders!  This beer's for you.

Thursday ~ March 18th

I just love domed churches like the St. Basil's Cathedral (above).

The top of this mosque is the prettiest shade of blue I think I've every seen.  And the exquisite detail to the rest of the building is just stunning!

This snowy church almost looks like a little miniature building in a Christmas scene you would place on top of your mantel, but it's real.

Don't all these tops remind you of beads a little bit?  Hmm, I think I've just inspired myself to try to make a bead like those beautiful fish scale domes above.

Tuesday ~ March 23rd

Bead & Bracelet Sale Update ~ I still have a few items left from the sale yesterday so I put them onto one page which you can find by clicking on this link: Beads & Bracelets.

Above, donated beads for a charity auction that will be running soon for a fellow beadmaker, Michelle Goldstein, which I'm sure many of you are familiar with.  She's going through a tough time & Gail Crosman Moore is organizing an auction to raise funds for her.

There will be amazing things to behold!  I will send out another notification when the auction is up so that you don't miss out.

Otherwise, I'm back to the torch today, working on a long overdue request for an Alexandria bead set.  Hopefully I'll have some leftovers to offer up here.

Wednesday ~ March 24th

I snapped this shot of Maggie seconds before she leapt to the tall bookcase.  I just love the texture of the fur on both of these March lions.

I woke to a blizzard this early morning, winds whipping up & spinning ice crystals threw the air.  Will March go out like a lion?  I hope not.  I'm ready for Spring.

Thursday ~ March 25th

Awesome!

Friday ~ March 26th

Earth Hour is tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m.

Love these videos!

I found some pictures of my city, Edmonton last March before & during Earth Hour, courtesy of WWF

The downtown skyline:

And City Hall:

Last March, Edmonton's energy consumption for Earth hour went down 5.2%.  Isn't it exciting to make a real difference just by shutting off the lights?  Now that's power, err, I mean no power... *groan*.

Our friends down in Calgary didn't do as well, with only a 1% decline in energy for that hour.  We have a friendly yet competitive rivalry with Calgary so maybe for this one, they'll give us some real competition?

Monday ~ March 29th

My mom brought over a huge bunch of tulips for me last week so I played around with the camera taking loads of shots ~ these are my two favorites.

Chris & I spent most the weekend outside enjoying the beautiful weather & longer days.  I did some cleanup in the yard including wiping down a patio table which was so grimy from being out all winter.  It was hard to believe how much dirt accumulated on it.  Chris bought a bunch of wood on Saturday & made a new sawhorse so he's geared up to start on the front pergola.  Next weekend I'll get the pruners out & sharpen them.  I noticed that a lot of things need a good clip in the yard.  I've already had some unwanted help from the bunnies with this chore as they gnawed away at the blueberry bushes.  Now they're just blueberry sticks, but other than that, they left most everything else alone.

Today is supposed to be very warm & I heard there might be a chance of rain showers later on.  It would be wonderful to get a good rain to wash the dust off of everything.  I just love this time of year.

Wednesday ~ March 31st
