Monday ~ May 1st

I picked up this beautiful tin container at a garage sale this weekend for a buck ~ score!  It actually leaks & made the tulips limp so I won't be using it again as a vase, but I think it will make a great container to put a gift in.

Oh boy, the Edmonton Oilers are playing the Detroit Red Wings tonight & if they win, they take this series - excitement is mounting!  I'll be making beads while watching the game!

Hip, hip, hooray,

It's May!

Tuesday ~ May 2nd

                             Big fish, little kitties

Wooh-hooh!  The Oilers won the series against the Detroit Red Wings!  What a game!  What a game!

Today, it's snow-raining, yuck!  I've got errands to run all day; groceries, a vet visit (for my cat, not me silly), post office, dentist & if I have time, a quick stop to the glass shop to pick up some glass rods I'm out of.  I hope I can work on beads tonight...

Wednesday ~ May 3rd

Cool things!

Courtesy of the Balloon Hat Experience

1.  Addi Somekh has made a career out of whimsy.  He makes the most extraordinary balloon hats & has gone around the world, crossing all cultures, to share the pure joy & silliness of them.  There's even a documentary about it!  If you've ever wanted to take the leap from that empty, but secure job to something that might be risky but is filled with passion, Addi's story might be the inspirational catalyst you need.  I think he's fantastic!

2.  David Blaine is at it again!  He's submerged inside a life-size goldfish bowl & will remain underwater for 8 days!  This guy is insane!  For his finale, he's going to try to hold his breath underwater for 9 minutes, breaking the world record, while unchaining himself from 150 pounds of chains.  He says if he can't do it, he'll drown alive & this will all be shown on TV May 8th, so mark your calendar.

3.  Shortly after 1 a.m. tonight, the numerical date & time will read:

                                           01:02:03 04.05.06

4.  Stephan Wiltshire  is a savant with a camera-like memory - check it out ~ way cool.

5.  About right now, Tricia & Mike are saying their wedding vows in Costa Rica!

I'm just packing to leave for Red Deer (1 1/2 hours south of here).  I'm taking a 5 day course with Corina Tettinger - the Queen of Glass Beads.  I'm so excited to be able to take a class with her!  I'll be gone until late Friday night & when I get back I'll have pictures & stories to tell.  Hope you have a wonderful week & thanks to all that came to our sale this weekend - you rock!

Monday ~ May 14th

Backyard this morning, lilac tree exploding with sweet smelling blooms

It's 6 a.m.  I've been up for almost an hour (it's so darn light out in the morning, what's a girl to do?).   I'm going to torch for several hours this morning while it's reasonably cool.  I haven't torched since coming back from Red Deer because it's been so beautiful out & I've taken advantage of that.  Instead, I've been in the garden or at the greenhouses.  Yesterday, mom & I planted all my pots.  It's so wonderful to see so much color in the backyard again!  I know I have lots of orders long overdue so I'll be chipping away at things this morning.  I have to leave at 11 for a massage.  I have a gift certificate for it that is just about to expire so I must go (my shoulders are in need anyway).

There's been lots going on here.  Mother's Day was fabulous - on Saturday we went to the park for a picnic with Chris' family.  We tried gold panning down at the river.  No gold, but as we scoured the river's edge I found a really old bone that is in the process of turning to stone.  I think I'll take it to the University & see if they can roughly date it.  On Sunday we went with my family to the horse races for lunch!  That was kind of different, but a lot of fun & it got my mom off the hook as she normally cooks a big dinner for my grandparents.  Chris & I actually won a bit of money betting on the odds, enough to pay for our lunch, half of my mom's (my brother paid the other half) & all the bets we made - sweet!  On Tuesday, I went to Devonian Botanic Garden to pick up my Plant Identification project & to hand in my 80 voluntary hours slip - my Master Gardening course is finally finished!  I received 90% on the plant i.d. which pleased me greatly as it was such a big project.  I hope it doesn't take them as long to mail out my certificate as it took me to complete the course!

Well I best be getting to work.  I won't be torching in the afternoon as it will be quite warm out again, but I will try to photograph some new jewelry & post pictures soon...  Have a fabulous day!

Oh yeah, the Edmonton Oilers beat San Jose last night to win the series!  They're off to the conference finals ~ this city is going crazy!

Tuesday ~ May 23rd

Click on picture to view new jewelry!  (*Please note, there are 2 pages of jewelry.  The link to second page is at the bottom of the first jewelry page*).

The weather was so amazing this past week that I found it nearly impossible to be inside.  But I did find time to go for walks, work in the garden, hang out with friends on the deck, smell lilac blooms, listen to robins sing & watch my cats bask in the sun & I don't feel a pinch guilty!  I even saw some mountain bluebirds driving to Chris' parents out in the country, they are so darn spectacular!  Life is good right now my friends!

Rumor has it there's rain in the forecast for the entire week so I'll be at the torch catching up (thank god for bad weather, I would never get anything done otherwise).  In the meantime, I did find a few hours to photograph & post some jewelry so click on the picture above if you're itching for some bling to show off that summer tan.

Wednesday ~ May 24th

Check out the eaglets!  They're growing like weeds!

Oh, & I think this is a pretty interesting project.  Do you have any secrets?

Friday ~ May 26th

I just listed a new "Where in the World is Carrie Hamilton" contest!  Click here to check it out!  And above ~ the prize for the last contest!

Do you remember that contest I had about "Ceiling News"?  I was going to make a webpage with all the positive stories you sent me?  Well, when we bought the new computer, I had problems transferring over my emails & lost some of the stories so I never completed the page.  But the cool thing is, I just recently found a website that shows nothing but fun & encouraging news articles!  In fact, it's called "Boing, Boing ~ A Directory of Wonderful Things".   If you need more "ceiling news" in your life, head over there - it's fantastic & updated several times every day!  A few days back they had a link to an article regarding animal overpasses on the highways to try to protect both wildlife & travelers.  So far, it's been very successful & they want to extend them from the Yukon down to Yellowstone!  You can read more about it here.

Have you seen Einstein the African Gray Parrot?  He's so cool! (Wouldn't you agree Vicki?).

Monday ~ May 29th

The Edmonton Oilers are going to the Stanley Cup finals!

Thought I would share this amazing moment with you.  If you're a Canadian, it will be hard not to get goose bumps watching this.   I guess this was the first time in playoff history that the singer raised the microphone to let the audience finish singing the anthem.

Thanks for the picture Pat!

Tuesday ~ May 30th (Early Morning)

I've been working on Aegean Artifact orders.  Lately it seems that this is the most requested bead set of mine.  Must be that whole archaeology theme going on right now with the glass beads on eBay?
