Monday ~ May 3rd

My beads from the Montreal exhibit have arrived home.

Some are already spoken for, but I will offer the others up for grabs once I take individual photos of them.

Stay tuned...

Tuesday ~ May 4th

Ah, the perks of living in a northern clime in May:

Just look at that pristine snow, falling & falling & *sigh* falling...

Gaze at the beauty of our gate after 10 hours of 80 km winds smacked the snow against it.  Simply stunning!

And how picturesque are these tulips under a half foot of snow?  Just gorgeous how the colors contrast, don't you think?

Anybody up for a visit?  I've got the perfect spot in the back where we can sit & watch the snow... err... I mean the world go by.

Friday ~ May 7th, 2010

Look at Maggie's thought bubble.  Even my cat is dreaming of Spring.

It's working!  The snow is almost all gone:

Saturday ~ May 7th

My Etsy shop is now open!

I have silk neck ties, bracelets and beads from the Montreal Exhibit.

I'll leave a permanent link on the left hand side, but you can also click on a picture above to see what's up for grabs.

More to come soon including our new Magic Medallions so check back often.

There's a rule of thumb around here that you should always wait until the May long weekend before planting your bedding plants because of the possibility of frost.

This is a very good rule.  Just scroll down to last Tuesday's post to see why.

But, judging from the long term forecast, I think we might be in the clear (fingers crossed and knocking on wood).

So goodbye everyone.  I'm off to play in my yard.  See you in September!

Just kidding.

I'll still be making beads, but this week, I'll be spending most of my time at the greenhouse or outside.

Friday ~ May 14th

Working in the yard all weekend.  I'll try to remember to take pictures of some of our projects to share later.  Have a wonderful day!

Spring.  Is there a better time of year?

After a long winter, to see color come to life in the yard.  To smell the sweet fragrance of the lilacs & the apple blossoms.  To hear robins singing & feel the warmth of the sun.

                              Crabapple blooms at sunset

                            Primroses in the rock garden

Ornamental onions, waving in the wind

Flowers are abound in the yard, and I am again, totally smitten with Spring.

Thursday ~ May 27th

More from the yard...

Oh the lilacs right now!

The onions are still stunning

Mountain Ash flowers ~ dreamy in their details

My Sweet Nu ~ such a gentle cat

Sunsets are worth staying out for, even if they're close to 10 p.m. now

As you can see, I've been away from the torch...

I apologize if you come here to look at beads & not flowers, but everything, just outside my door, is so breathtakingly beautiful right now, can you blame me?

Monday ~ May 30th

Chris & I sat in the hot tub Sunday morning & watched the snow fall.  Yes, that's right, S-N-O-W, it's not a typo.

Needless to say, it was not a good weekend for gardening.  The second weekend in a row of wet, cold temperatures.  So many of our projects are on hiatus until it warms up & dries out a bit.  We took the opportunity to rest up & recharge the batteries.

On Saturday evening, while the skies darkened and the snow started to fly, Chris & I drove out to a greenhouse for a little "plant therapy" and also to try to find the elusive Pitcher Plant that, according to our New Perennials for Canada book, are native to these parts (however, we've never seen it).

Sarracenia purpurea ~ commonly known as the Pitcher Plant

These beautiful plants are carnivorous, eating ants and flies that wander too close.  We think they would make a really nice backdrop to a gurgler garden bed we are making in the front yard (photos to come upon completion).

In our hunt, we found some pitcher plants, but they were tropical ones, definitely not hardy to our climate, so the search continues...

As compensation to our disappointment, we bought a fabulous Venus Fly Trap plant that we'll put outside this summer & bring in once the temperatures drop in the fall.  We could probably do the same with the tropical pitcher plants we found, but they were 30 bucks a piece, not quite what we wanted to spend per plant.

We also watched loads of episodes of 30 Rock & my new Kate McKinnon book, Sculptural Metal Clay came in the mail on Friday so I had time to leaf through the beautiful pages & watch the excellent DVD that accompanies it.

Seriously, the value from this book is really incredible!  For $26.95, you receive 142 pages of step-by-step pictures & information, which equates to an incredibly insightful & comprehensive guide to metal clay & a DVD in which Kate McKinnon teaches you the basics for over an hour in the comforts of your own home!

If you think of just the money you will save on metal clay alone using her techniques (no filing, no wasteful steps, just clean, smart cuts), it's worth the price of the book and so much more.

I'm floored at the awesomeness of it, just floored!  Thanks Kate ~ I love you too!

As for today, I'll be making beads.  Working on some orders that need to be completed this week so that I can start to explore metal clay & how I can apply it to my beads!
