I want to thank all of you that came by
for our show on the weekend. Once again, we had a wonderful time
& hope you did too. I will post a few jewelry items up here for
the people that missed out, hopefully within the next week.
An image
I found years ago that I've wanted to share here ever since.
Have you
ever gone fly fishing? I did once & seem to recall no success.
I spent all of yesterday bent over
pruning, raking, weeding & edging in the front yard & boy am I feeling it today. Thankfully, I've scheduled a
hot rocks massage for this morning. And what a day for a nice, warm
massage ~ the opposite of yesterday, it is blustery & wet out.
My muscles are excited to be soothed by the heat.
Wednesday, May 4th
We're off to Phoenix tomorrow for an
itty-bitty mini vacation. Any recommendations while we're there?
Be back next week to show you a few
jewelry items up for grabs here. Have a wonderful weekend.
Wow, a week sure flies by when you're
having fun. Phoenix was a
wonderful; warm & sunny, blooming cacti & birds galore! We swam,
drove through the desert, hungout with hummingbirds, bet on the
Kentucky derby, ate steak & lobster, visited with family & had drinks
while overlooking the city on a clear, starry night ~ simply
wonderful!
Now that we're back, I've been working on
photos & tomorrow, I hope to have a lovely, little jewelry sale
available here, please stay tuned.
In the meantime, can you relate to this?
It made me chuckle & so did this:
Friday,
May 13th
Update ~
9:00 am:
I am out
of town this weekend, but please feel free to email me with your
orders & I will update the pages & get in touch with you either Sunday
night or Monday. Thanks so much, have a wonderful weekend!
* While we were in Phoenix, my Aunt & Uncle
threw a Kentucky Derby Party & I spread my bets to include the horse,
Animal Kingdom to win & he did so in honor of
my excitement that day, I thought it would be fun to name all the
jewelry pieces for this sale after famous race horses. There's
also a little history to those horses too ~ have fun!
Oh, but before I forget:
When you're on the jewelry pages, if you
want to buy something, please click on the underlined name of that
jewelry piece, which should open up an email notice to send to me.
If you have any difficulties, just email me directly at
carrie@beadtree.net & give me
the name of what you would like to purchase. I will mark down
the initials of the person who is buying each jewelry item next to it
as soon as I can so hit refresh on your monitor often.
Once an item is sold, it's sold so if
you're interested in something, please let me know as soon as
possible.
I would appreciate if you could tell me
what country you're emailing from as Canadians pay GST & outside of
North America, different postal prices apply. Please also
mention how you would like to pay - paypal is the preferred method & I
am happy to send you an invoice once you're done shopping. If
you don't have paypal, we can sort something else out.
Monday, May 16th
I'm off to the post office with the
first batch of goodies, lovingly wrapped & ready to go to their new
homes, but first, I wanted to share some pictures:
In front of Lake Louise.
We snuck off to Lake Louise this weekend
for a little escape.
I was surprised by how much snow they
still have, but I've always thought that snow never looks better than
when it's draped on a mountain:
Wouldn't you agree? Simply breath
taking! I got this photo from the gondola that we rode down the
ski hill:
It was a stellar day ~ blue skies, warm
sun, no wind & a whole lot of fresh, mountain air.
Abraham Lake, starting to thaw & showing
its beautiful blue waters.
Don't want to give too much away with
this picture above, but Chris is pointing to a hidden
geocache, somewhere in Lake Louise.
We spotted lots of wild life ~ especial
mule deer & white-tailed deer, but also mountain sheep,
a marmot (which I've never seen before, they're huge!) &
this incredible black bear:
Close up version:
When we stopped to take a picture of this
bear, I opened the car door, stood up from my seat & started snapping
with one foot still in the car... ya know, just incase.
Seconds later, another car coming from
the opposite direction, drove up to our side of the road & two guys
with deluxe cameras that had giant lenses on them, jumped out of their
car, walked into the field directly in front of the bear, took
the time to load their cameras on tripods & started shooting photos.
The Bravado!
That's when the bear took notice & did
this:
* GULP * In person, this bear was
very intimidating! Notice how perked his ears are? He
wasn't "just" curious, you could tell he was trying to make a
statement. Needless to say, I didn't waste much time
jumping back into the car, but those 2 guys with the big cameras
didn't flinch! Luckily for them, the bear decided to run back
into the forest.
But just between you & I, wouldn't you
love to give this bear a hug if you could!?
A great weekend, hope yours was too.
One more shot, because Lake Louise is so darn pretty.
Monday, May 23rd
All of a sudden, it's "instant summer" here.
All four crabapples are blossoming at this very moment!
So many wonderful things are happening in the yard. I've had the
opportunity to watch the growing season just kind of erupt in front of
me while digging, trimming & pruning the past week.
False Spirea, alive & kickin'
It's unbelievable how the landscape has changed as a result of a
recent string of warm weather & of course the sunlight, which now
lingers for an incredible 17 hours a day.
Of
great interest to me has been all the bird activity of late. A
gang of
Cedar Waxwings, about 9 or 10 of them, have been hanging
out for over a week now in the dreaded Manitoba Maple next door.
I really hope they're spending all their time up there gorging on the
aphids that I'm sure the damn tree is bulging with. They whistle
constantly & come down from time to time to drink at the bird bath,
but other than that, they just kind of sit up there, I wonder what
they're waiting for?
We've
also had a group of
Pine Siskin buzz in, only temporarily & have since left.
There's been a pair of robins visiting too. One of the robins
rummages through the old, wet leaves in the pond, collecting stacks of
them in it's mouth, while the other stands atop the garage as a
lookout. They must be building a nest somewhere.
This area seems to be the most popular for the birds.
I've spotted a purple finch couple in the yard, singing & dancing with
each other in the lilac bush. I love having them, their call is
so sweet. There have also been chipping sparrows, noisy wrens,
crows, magpies & blue jays, moths, butterflies, bees & dragonflies all
stopping over for something. It's a hub of activity over here.
Blue Jay whetting his whistle
It is so nice to be outside again, like peeling off a layer of
winter skin that is claustrophobic & weighty.
And to be able to
create a little sanctuary for these other creatures too, in the middle
of the city, well, it feels so worthwhile. This yard is finally
becoming a shelter for others, a place for
flying creatures to come & rest, enjoy some shade, water & food.
I feel so happy to be a part of it, to help nurture these other life
forms in an urban setting, it nurtures me.
Wednesday, May 25th
The last
Oprah
show is today! Are you going to watch it? I am,
with a box of tissues in my lap & I'm luring Chris in too by serving
these while it's on. I'll let you know how the recipe
turns out.
P.S.
I would get a dog just to buy
this hat for it to wear!
Monday, May 30th
So I made the
Jamaican jerk burgers. I thought they were just okay,
but Chris really liked them. Tough to say if I would recommend
them or not.
We had a very busy & fun weekend, which seemed to fly by way too fast;
I can't believe it's already Monday. The days might be getting
longer but they sure are feeling shorter to me. Luckily we had
some nice weather & were able to work in the yard quite a bit.
Chris is rebuilding the waterfall & it's almost complete so I'll share
some pictures once I get the plants filled in that area.
Here's a few pictures of our front yard this morning:
The grass has really started to perk up after a little bit of babying.
I made up most of my containers on the weekend too so things are
humming along nicely.
Today I'm off to look at kitchen cabinets, backsplashes, sinks...etc.
Do you have butcher block for countertops? If so, would you be
so kind as to
email me
your thoughts on it? I'm very keen about it, but want to hear
how it holds up. And of course, if you have any tips before we
start our renovation, I would love to hear them.
