Seeds & Seed Pods
I was at the Devonian Botanic Gardens
yesterday, putting in more hours for my practicum. I have 8 more
hours to go and that's it - I will finally have my Master Gardening
Certificate ~ phew, just in time for... winter.
For a couple of hours I was cleaning
seeds, which was truly fascinating - their shapes and textures seem
so unusual & imaginative! There was a microscope for examining
closely all the grooves & fringes & furry tails that comprise so many
of these seeds.
Then I came home & roasted pumpkin seeds.

Dreaming Large...

About 5 years ago I wrote a list with the
title "20 Things I look Forward to Accomplishing in My Life". It
goes like this:
1. Earning a University Degree (√)
2. Having a successful career
(well, I think I'm getting there...)
3. Learning to play the guitar (√)
4. Horseback riding on the hills of
Easter Island
5. Running a Race (√)
6. Meeting Oprah
7. Going on an archaeological dig (√)
8. Writing a book (in progress)
9. Swimming with the fishes in the
Galapagos Islands
10. Learning how to tap dance (√)
11. Owning a horse
12. Beachcombing on the shores of
Thailand
13. Learning how to make a fantastic
gumbo
14. Hang gliding
15. Going on Safari in Africa (√)
17. Seeing a whale in the wild (√)
18. Spotting a toucan bird in Costa Rica
19. Camping in Alaska
20. Downhill skiing without fear
Of course there are other things I want
to do & perhaps I need to update my list, but this was part of a
visualization exercise. I think it's been a very powerful tool
in helping me realize what is important in my life & what I want out
of life. For me, it's not the material things you collect over
the years, but the experiences you live & the skills you gain as you
travel this incredible journey. After I wrote this list, I put
it where I would see it every day (on my refrigerator). It's
been moved to my desk since, but I review it from time to time & check
off the things that happen & I'm amazed at how these dreams of mine
have started to transpire! How about you?
What's your list? |

Monday ~ November 7th

I had a super weekend! On Saturday
we had a private show, which was a lot of fun, thanks to the super
nice ladies that came! On Sunday we celebrated my nieces'
birthday. That's Alexis on the left - she turned 11 & that's my
other niece Chelsey on the right. Those two are so cute -
they're not big fans of having their photo taken so almost every
picture I have, they are turning their heads to hide or they have a
horrified look on their face like, 'I can't believe you are taking my
photo!'. I know they're going to loose it when they see their
picture up
here; sorry girls, I couldn't resist (snicker, snicker).
Speaking of photos, I should have one up in the next day or two of
some of our jewelry that we have available - we are having an open
house in 2 weeks, but I'll write more about that once I get the photo
up. Just waiting for the sun to come out so I can get a shot in
the natural light - looks like that won't be happening today. We
had our first dusting of snow last night & the clouds are still
lingering. I also want to get the contests going again...I've
been thinking of some ideas so when I get a chance I'll start a new
one ~ thanks for your patience. |

Friday ~
November 11th

In
Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the
sky
The larks, still bravely singing,
fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the
Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset
glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we
lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our
quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we
throw
The torch; be yours to hold it
high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though
poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Monday ~ November 14th

Cirque du Soleil
My mom made this little number on the
weekend. It was actually part of a custom order for one of our
favorite customers so it is sold, but I thought it was so pretty I
wanted to post it anyway.
I had a pretty good weekend. Went
for a walk in the woods, visited with a friend who was in town for the
weekend, made a bunch of Christmas cards, attended a Remembrance Day
ceremony, ate a really good steak sandwich, watched the Edmonton
Eskimos beat the Calgary Stampeders to advance to the semi-finals
(sorry Flanders!), won a little money playing poker & cleaned the
house. Hope you had a good weekend too.
I'll be working all week getting ready
for our open house this weekend. After that I will post some
bead sets up here for sale! |

Wednesday ~ November 16th

Desert Bloom
Here's another bracelet - this one is for
sale & will be available at the open house this weekend. Still
working lots - I had a very productive day yesterday, despite a cold I
caught last weekend. I don't know if I'll be back this week or
not, but expect a major update either Monday or Tuesday next week -
I've pulled all my beads from the bead box & I'm going to get Judes
(the name I call my mom when we're doing business) to organize them
into sets for specials.
I best be off, thanks for checking in ~
hope you're enjoying your day! |

Thursday ~ November 17th

Turkish Delight
I think this one is sold, but I
had some leftover pictures from when I updated the jewelry grove about
a month ago &, at the time, I missed putting this one up. This
bracelet is from our series called "Turkish Delight". Judes made
several bracelets with a mix of different stones & silver and added
one of my lampwork beads in it...can you spot which one was made by
me? I love these bracelets because they look so exotic & there's
so much tactile interest to them. |

Another little sweetie just recently made. |

Tuesday ~ November 22nd

The
sunset outside my front door!
Wow,
those specials went fast! Thanks so much to all of you that
purchased & expressed an interest. Sorry to all that got to them
too late, I guess I need to put specials up more often, huh?
If you would like to be
notified when I list new bead goodies, email me at
carrie@beadtree.net & I'll
put you on my list.
I've updated the
Jewelry Grove. I kept a lot of the pieces that have
already sold, just so that you can see the different styles, and of
course, there are a few new pieces to look at that are now available.
I'll be going to the post office in the next couple of days so if you
see something you like & would like to see it in your mailbox before
Christmas, please notify me a.s.a.p.
* Just want to send out a special thanks to all of you that come here
to check things out on a regular basis, I appreciate your presence
here.* |

Wednesday ~ November 23rd

Durham
I put up the new contest
here.
It requires a little reading so
make sure you have a few moments for it.
I also wanted to take a minute & thank
all the wonderful people that came to our open house & our earlier
show (Earthly Goods Girls). We really appreciate your purchases
& hope that you love your pieces as much as we've loved making them.
We have such extraordinary clients/friends; they sure make us feel
special. So thanks to all that have been supporting our
business!
And while I'm on the topic, a big Happy
Thanksgiving to all my American buddies! Hope you spend this
weekend enjoying your family. |

Smorgasbord...

Jewelry table at our open house

Close-up of jewelry
Thought I would post a couple of pictures from our open house.
Unfortunately, every photo I put up here is shrunk down so that it
doesn't take forever to upload onto your computer screen.
Because of this, the photos with a lot of stuff in them (i.e. jewelry)
cannot be viewed with the clarity of the originals, but at least you
get the gist, right? Now that this show is over, Judes & I
will be working towards our next show, which is in Tucson, Arizona
from January 31st to February 6th. Incase you're in that part of
the world during that time, here's a
link to the event. I'm really excited about it, but I'll
be working extra long hours now & won't be able to accommodate any
special orders here until afterwards. I will try to keep you all
up to date on the progress & show some sneak peeks as I go along
though.
Yesterday Chris & I went to see
Walk
The Line, the new movie about Johnny Cash & June Carter.
I would say that I enjoyed it, just as a movie alone, I thought it was
quite a captivating love story. As for as a movie about
Johnny Cash,
it was o.k. but it was missing a lot of aspects about his influence on
the world of music. I think I would recommend it regardless,
Joaquin & Reese did an incredible job of singing, but it comes up
short as far as Johnny Cash the legend goes.
As for today, oh boy am I stoked! The Grey Cup (Canada's
equivalent to the Super Bowl) is today & the Edmonton Eskimos are playing the
Montreal Alouettes for the championship. Chris & I are going
over to my mom's - she's throwing a little party & my brother is
making his famous chili. My grandparents will be there, Grandpa
right up close to the television & my grandma will be hiding in the
other room because she can't bare to watch (she gets more nervous than
the players). And tomorrow I start a 2 day class with Larry Brickman! You can see
the kind of beads he makes
here.
Pretty Cool!

Monday ~ November 28th
Woo-hooh!
The Edmonton Eskimos are the Grey Cup Champions!!!! And
boy was that ever an exciting game - one of the best (wouldn't you
agree Flanders?).
Got to run
to class, but thought you might enjoy this picture:
