Monday ~ October 4th
I have some
photos from our
trip here.
It was such a fun vacation. We've been back for a week now &
I've been making lots of beads for our shows. Mom had her
opening reception for her art exhibit called ON SAFARI this
past Friday night. We had about 20 or so Bead Tree pieces on
display as well. An excellent night with a great turnout.
If you're in the Edmonton area and didn't get a chance to go, her show
continues until October 13th at The Front Gallery (12312 Jasper Ave).
I have a couple of photos of some of her paintings
here.

Sunday ~ October 10th
A big Happy Thanksgiving
to all you Canadians out there. We're going to be eatin' turkey tonight! As proof
that I am actually making beads these days, I took this photo. These beads
are headed to my mom's, that
is, if I can get them away from Sentinel Maggie.

On another note, our
city, Edmonton started celebrating it's 100th year anniversary on
Friday. It's a party that is going to last a full year!
Chris & I went downtown to join in some of the festivities. They
put on a cool fireworks show off the roof of city hall.
What I enjoyed most though, was watching
The Corb
Lund Band in Sir Winston
Churchill Square. Corby used to be the bass player & back up
singer for an indie rock band called "the smalls", but now he
writes incredible alt-country tunes & is backed up by a very
talented band. His current muse is our province Alberta ~ past &
present. He blends images of the prairies, old west saloon life,
the whiskey trade, ranching & rodeo all together with catchy beats.
If you go to his website you can click on the "multimedia" and see a
couple of his videos. And if you like original, country-roots
music buy his album "Five Dollar Bill" - you won't be disappointed!

Thursday ~ October 14

I pulled these little
sweeties out of the kiln this morning. They're really tiny,
although you can't tell by the picture. I can't stop
fondling the one with the big hole in the middle. It's so fun to
touch! I'll be sending them off to mom's as she's busy making
jewelry for our show next weekend. Today I'm working with my
brother to help him catch up with his yard & landscaping business
after a 3 week holiday. It's going to be great to
get outside before the snow flies.

Saturday ~ October 16th

This is what we woke up
to this morning! About 5 cm (2 inches) of snow & another 10 cm
is expected for the day. It's beautiful though - the first
snowfall always is because it's so white & clean.
It's quite warm out too (0 degrees C / 32 degrees F) so the snow is
melting into a bit of a slush on the pavement. I went to my
first knitting class this morning. I thought it would be handy
to learn how to knit wool socks, tukes & mitts for these long winters.
I'm really excited - halfway through a washcloth already! |

Monday ~ October 18th

I wish these beads were for sale here, but alas, they & everything
else I'm making these days, are going to the other half of The Bead
Tree to be fashioned by my mom's magic hands into something wonderful
to wear. I'm particularly happy with these beads, they have a
lot of drama to them. I hope they find a loving home! |

Pigeons in the Hood...

We have this gang of pigeons that fly
around the neighborhood.
But I like it most when they stop & line up along the
telephone wire
like little grey soldiers against the grey
sky. |

Traditions...

Each year around this
time, Chris & I exchange candles for our pumpkins ~ it's a tradition,
but there's a catch. We have to find the ugliest candle(s)
imaginable! Chris' theory is, why buy a beautiful candle only to
melt it down into a worthless puddle of wax?
So, now it's become
somewhat of a competition on who can find the ugliest candle(s).
I have yet to purchase mine this year but, here's what
he presented to me the other night.
Psst...don't tell him,
but I actually think these guys are kind of cute. |
