Tuesday ~ October 4th

6 years ago, I was there when Emmett was born, in fact, I saw Emmett
being born and it was an incredible experience. To see this new
life force at the very second when he arrived into the world. To see
his parents faces when they first saw him, and to know right at that
very moment nothing would be the same because now there was Em; it was
an experience unlike any other. Ever since, I've always felt a
connection to Emmett. Maybe it's a tiny bit like what parents feel
for their kids; a deep-rooted love & a strong desire for his
happiness.
Emmett is a really neat
little guy. He's so full of energy. He radiates with excitement over
all the new things around him and he has all these sweet personality
traits that I adore, like if he knows your taking a picture of him,
he'll do a little pose for you ~ click on his photo to see what I
mean.
Happy Birthday Emmett! |

More fall photos. This
is of an Amur Maple leaf taken in my mom's yard. It's such a
beautiful tree at this time of year, one of the most showiest here in
Edmonton. I'm torn between getting one of these, which you get
spectacular, knock-your-socks-off color for about a month or two in
autumn, but that's about it's best selling feature or getting an
Amur Cherry tree, which has copper-bronze bark and would be a stunning
feature tree in the winter (however, I'm not particularly found of the
leaves or shape of the tree any other time of the year - I mean,
it's o.k. but nothing great). Does anyone out there have any
advice? |

"...I don't know exactly what a prayer
is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?"

Fat Blue Jay
No, we are not going to
eat this guy for thanksgiving, although he is almost as big as a
turkey. This is, without a doubt, the fattest blue jay I have
ever seen. He's not just puffing out those feathers either, he's
really that big! I guess all the peanuts I've been giving him
doesn't help, but I can't resist, I love when this guy comes by.
Happy Thanksgiving to all
my fellow Canucks! |

Thursday ~ October 13th

"Ninja Nephews"
Our nephews dressed up for thanksgiving
and showed us their ninja moves & samurai swordsmanship throughout the
evening, except for Jeffy (on the left), he just wanted to play with
his truck for most the night. I'm pretty impressed with this
photo because they are all looking at the camera at the same time. I had no idea how tricky it
is to get 3
young boys to stop what they are doing and pose for a picture
simultaneously, but let me tell you...
Looking forward to this weekend BIG TIME! We're going to see
Corb Lund
here in town on Friday & then driving down to Calgary to see him again
(such groupies!). It should be a lot of fun! |

Sensitive

Love After Love by Derek Walcott
The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's
welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was
your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give
back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved
you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the
bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life. |

Photo courtesy of Patti Fish (a.k.a. Fish Patty)
I really dig this photo. I like how
the blurring of the background brings out the aspects of this tree.
It's something you might not observe while walking in the forest, but
because this photo zeros in on the tree you take notice of the lichen
& moss growing out of the bark. In nature, it's those minute
details, like tiny surprises, that really thrill me. Aristotle
once said, "in all things of nature there is
something of the marvelous". Patti has definitely captured it in
this picture. |

"Todd Snider is a true songwriter, with
the heart and humor of John Prine, the wild unpredictability of Roger
Miller, and a fresh, original spirit and freedom of imagination that’s
absolutely his own.” ~ Kris Kristofferson.
We went to see
Todd
Snider last night! This guy is so incredible live.
He's charming, clever, captivating, funny & so talented... It was one
of the best gigs we have ever seen! If he is ever in your town,
don't miss the chance to see him. |

Tuesday ~ October 25th

Last year I wrote about Chris' annual
"ugly candle" tradition (you can read about it
here, just
scroll down to Monday ~ October 25th). Well, this is the candle
Chris gave me this year. An ugly bat like creature with a teddy
bear face and a wick emerging out of its belly. Chris also gave
me a gift certificate for a psychic as part of my "Halloween treats".
I went to see her the other day & she read my tarot cards & palm.
She said that my business will continue to grow and that I'll be doing
a lot of traveling because of it. Actually, we are going to
Tucson, Arizona in late January for a show...hmmm. She also said
that there is a lot of change going on in my life and will continue
through next year. She told me my outlook card is
"Enlightenment" although she didn't go into too much detail regarding
that so I'm assuming that she means I will find enlightenment in my
near future (?). There were some other things...perhaps too
personal for here, but all in all, it was pretty interesting; I
thought she was quite a character & definitely nailed a few things.
If you live in town & find this kind of stuff entertaining I would
recommend her. She also does crystal ball readings ~ that sounds
way cool! |

Wednesday ~ October 26th

I've been busy working on lentils for
some jewelry for our upcoming shows. We have a few private shows
in the works this season, but if you live in or near Edmonton and you
were hoping to do a little Christmas shopping at the Bead Tree, please
email me here as we
are considering a open house in November. Boy, Christmas is
sneaking up, eh? And no snow in the forecast for at least
another week, which suits me just fine! |
