Tuesday ~ October 2nd

                          Canoeing down the river

Had a wonderful weekend, we did manage to get out canoeing just in the nick of time.  It's been breezy & the leafs are falling fast so I'm really glad we got a chance to get out there & enjoy it before it's all finished for the year.

Discovered this little video

We have amazing tools at hand to share our ideas, beauty, creativity & spirit ~

this is a world of grand possibilities!

Added another clue to the riddle contest - so far I haven't had very many people figure it out, so if you got it right, your chances are looking good.

I'm off to glass class today - a one day class with Alexx Cheng.  I'll have photos & stories to tell soon.  Have a great Thursday!

                               Cupcake Series

I will have pictures of my class yesterday, just have to go through the photos, so maybe tomorrow.  In the meantime, here's a peak at some more jewelry ~ new goodies we've been "cooking" up.  We are stocking up for some shows soon, but if you are interested in anything you see, drop me a line at carrie@beadtree.net, as it is for sale.

Saturday ~ October 7th

Click on the photo to see details about my recent class.

We are off to see the Trailer Park Boys Movie today - I'm so excited!  In case you don't know the Trailer Park Boys, read here, apparently you don't get the television series in the States anymore, that's a crying shame!

We're also making lots of meatballs for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow at Chris' parents.  We'll be having Turkey too of course, & all the fixings.  Should be a great day.  Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canucks!  Enjoy the long weekend.  Go support our Canadian film industry, eh.

Canoeing down the river ~ September 2006

Friday the 13th kids.  Are you scared?  I'm not, in fact I'm looking forward to today because we're going to go see the Trailer Park Boys Movie again!  We've decided once is not enough so that's what we're up to later on, but first, I'm going to put in a few hours at the torch.  Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Monday ~ October 16th

* It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Here's some tips on how to lower your risks. *

I had the most amazing "Do It Yourself Landscape Design" class this weekend.  It was taught by this incredibly smart & fun lady, Adele from Earthworm Landscape Design Co.   Go check out their website, even if you don't live in town, there's lots of pictures to get the creative juices flowing.  And if you do live in town & are thinking about landscaping your yard, they have great prices on their design consultations.  I get the feeling you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Since the class, I've gone out & purchased graph paper, clear overhead paper, erasable markers & today I'm in search of a few more items to get me started on our plan.  I think Chris & I will have a lot of fun coming up with ideas over the winter.  It's the only thing that's keeping me sane with our yard still in such disarray.

I'm taking my car in today to get new tires (finally) & mom & I have a tapas & martini class tonight so it's not going to work out with making beads...tomorrow I'll crack the whip.

Tuesday ~ October 17th

                                                 à la mode

Sleek, flat beads with bold bands wrapped around & subtle sparkles of silver throughout.  Hip colors for this season ~ eggplant, smoke, jet black & taupe.  Accompanied with faceted amethyst & Bali silver.  Feels fabulous on.

Our open house show is only a month away now!  If you live in Edmonton & you're not on our email or mailing list, contact me at carrie@beadtree.net & I'll make sure you get an invite.

Wednesday ~ October 18th

Gulls by the river ~ Sept 2006

"That was the day the ancient songs of blood & war spilled from a hole in the sky & there was a long moment as we listened & fell silent in our grief & then one by one, we stood tall & came together & began to sing of life & love & all that is good & true & I will never forget that day when the ancient songs died because there was no one in the world to sing them." ~ Brian Andreas

Thursday ~ October 19th

                                 Bread Pudding

More show & tell.  Though I used these particular colors with bread pudding in mind, I think their symmetry & bold designs don't quite match up to the name, but I just love the way "bread pudding" sounds so I've kept it.  Feel free to add your own input, sometimes the hardest part is finding names to match the creations (sometimes it's the funniest part too).

Contrasting dots, symmetrically laid out, swirls & lines & lots of encasing to give them depth.  I think my mom will make some really nice pieces out of them.

The Dudes are playing at the Sidetrack Cafe tonight, there's where you'll find me.

Friday ~ October 20th

This cat looks how I feel.  Ouch, my aching head... I think I had too much fun last night.  I'll announce the contest winner tomorrow.  Ciao.

Saturday ~ October 21st

                                      Geology

I love this bracelet!  In fact, I'm not sure if it will make it to the "sale table".  Hollow silver boulders matched with glass bead nuggets ~ flashy & lots of fun.

I've just drawn the name for the last contest ~ congratulations to Rickie Voges!  If you want to see the answer & enter the new contest just posted, click here.

Monday ~ October 23rd

                                                   Fossil

Smooth, patterned glass beads with chunky, faceted carnelian.

It should be a busy week; I hope to make a lot of beads.  Not much else going on around here.  Hope you're enjoying your Monday.

Wednesday ~ October 25th

                           Snowy & Tricia ~ Spring 2006

You were such a good pup, Snowy.  We'll miss you deeply.

Check out this documentary about another special dog ~ it's a little long, but it's worth it.

And incase you need a little laugh ~ costumes for your dog.

Thursday ~ October 26th

Today, I've been designing a postcard for our 4th Annual Christmas show.  I think we're going to go with this picture.  Some of the pieces above you might recognize from recent posts (I had to include my favorite bracelet - the one with the big silver smooth beads & tide pool strata).

There will be lots of cool things to purchase.  We have a new line of earrings that have fiery crystals, hammered silver & suspended chandelier forms.  We have lots of new silk ties that are very versatile with bead dangles that add some serious bling around the ol' neck, just what the fashion doctor ordered for those long grey days of winter!  Of course there's a bunch of new designs & hues in bracelets, wraps, pendants & lampwork earrings & we have a wide range of prices for all the girls on your list.  It's a great opportunity to purchase something distinct, special & locally handcrafted, so make sure you block out some time on November 18th or the 19th.  Email me at carrie@beadtree.net so I can get an invite out to you.

Halloween ~ October 31st

I don't have a single "Halloween" photo to show.  This is the best I could do.  We went to a costume party this weekend, but I didn't take my camera.  We didn't carve pumpkins this year & we didn't partake in our traditional ugly candle contest, so this is it... Happy Halloween.

New contest clue up here.

And here's an email sent to me that I thought was particularly funny:

A Summary of my 2006 Emails

I must send my thanks to whoever sent me the one about rat poop in the glue on envelopes because I now have to use a wet towel with every envelope that needs sealing. Also, now I have to scrub the top of every can I open for the same reason. I no longer have any savings because I gave it to a sick girl (Penny Brown) who is about to die in the hospital for the 1,387,258th time. I no longer have any money at all, but that will change once I receive the $15,000 that Bill Gates/Microsoft and AOL are sending me for participating in their special e-mail program.

I no longer worry about my soul because I have 363,214 angels looking out for me, and St. Theresa's novena has granted my every wish. I have learned that my prayers only get answered if I forward an email to seven of my friends and make a wish within five minutes.

I no longer eat KFC because their chickens are actually horrible mutant freaks with no eyes or feathers. I no longer use cancer-causing deodorants even though I smell like a water buffalo on a hot day.  Because of your concern I no longer drink Coca Cola because it can remove toilet stains.  I no longer use Saran wrap in the microwave because it causes cancer. And thanks for letting me know I can't boil a cup water in the microwave anymore because it will blow up in my face...disfiguring me for life.

I no longer check the coin return on pay phones because I could be pricked with a needle infected with AIDS.  I no longer go to shopping malls because someone will drug me with a perfume sample and rob me.  I no longer can buy gasoline without taking a man along to watch the car so a serial killer won't crawl in my back seat when I'm pumping gas.   I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number for which I will get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica, Uganda, Singapore, and Uzbekistan.

I no longer buy expensive cookies from Neiman Marcus since I now have their recipe.  Thanks to you, I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a big brown African spider is lurking under the seat and will cause me instant death when it bites my butt.  And thanks to your great advice, I can't pick up the $5.00 I dropped in the parking lot because it probably was placed there by a sex molester waiting underneath my car to grab my leg.

(It goes on...  It doesn't however, mention the Viagra, small cap stocks, weird cryptic Japanese subtitles, porn links, & incorrectly spelt spam notices that seems to be inundating my inbox, but you get the gist.)
