Puerto Vallarta ~ January & February 2008 |
|
Page 3, continued...
We finished class on Monday, a mere hour before Chris & my mom's boyfriend, Molly arrived & came to the casa to pick us up. We were off to a resort in Nuevo Vallarta, just North of Puerto Vallarta ~ time to switch gears.
Sea Gardens Resort, early morning
We stayed there for 4 nights & enjoyed some relaxing days by the pool & by the beach, but we also ventured out a few times.
We went on a road trip to Sayulita, a small surfing town to the North filled with vibrant colored buildings & sleepy dogs:

We went sailing another day:
This is George & Arnoldo, the friendliest, super awesomest sailing captains in the entire touristy world! These guys rocked & made for one of the best tours I've ever done anywhere!
We're off in the morning for whale watching, swimming in the ocean & sailing back. Too bad Chris was a wee bit sick that day...
Lucky frigate, unlucky fish.
Although I've only been two other times, I have never experienced whale watching like this before. Our one captain Arnoldo said that in the many years he's been doing this, only one other time did the humpback whales come so close & appear so curious about the boats & that was 2 years ago. We were in for a serious treat!
Can you believe this!!
That's mom on the right, she's pointing with her jaw on the floor of the boat, look at that whale. Can you see it's eye & smiley face?
There were 3 whales in total & they played along the boats for at least 15 minutes. (After that time we are required to move on anyway out of respect for the whales). One of the whales went up to a very small boat (there were 3 other little boats around) & blew out it's blowhole & soaked everyone aboard!
I included this picture to give you the sense of the size of these amazing mammals. This was an absolutely amazing day. I took over 100 photos of the whales alone ~ it was simply thrilling!
