The Garage Project |
When we first bought this house 3 years ago, this is what the garage looked like. There's a strange blue shed in front of it, a tree growing out of the garage, debris everywhere... I thought at the time, "ah, what a great fixer-upper!" |
So we fixed things up, dug out a little perennial garden & put up some lattice & we were happy with the look, but the garage was so small that we couldn't park in it & the slope of the driveway was ridiculous, so ridiculous that we couldn't get enough traction to get up the driveway in the winter. We decided last February enough was enough ~ we need a new driveway & a bigger garage... |
We hired some men that were reasonably priced, but not extremely bright. Within a couple of hours, they had managed to tear up our entire backyard, break up concrete that we didn't want broken up, destroy the perennial garden that they swore wouldn't get touched... |
They saw my disbelief & said, "this is progress dear, don't worry." |
Then they said that they would be coming back shortly to pour the pad & we never heard from them again, despite our many phone calls... |
And this was the view from my studio all winter. |
Then, as luck would have it, we found a new contractor that was willing to do the work right away. This was taken in early May... |
Here's the rebar!!! |
When the concrete truck pulled up in our alley, I had to lift my jaw off the floor, I honestly couldn't believe it! |
And the pad finished! It only took a week from start to finish, they would have had it done even sooner but it rained solid for 3 days after they started. So now we just need a garage... |
