Gypsy Charms
She was a gypsy girl. Gathered with her family & walking down the streets of Rome. They stopped at the Trevi Fountain to gaze at the sculptured marble backdrop. She walked to the stone rim edge of the fountain & looked down at the sparkling allure of the coins that sat at the bottom of the pool. They reminded her of her own treasure & she reached into her beaded purse, past the rusted skeleton key without its lock & past the handmade handkerchief with her initials embroidered on it to the bottom of her purse where there sat a row of charms strung together. She pulled them out & gazed at the 17 handmade glass beads in soft periwinkle blue, autumn topaz, rich ivory & a touches of goldstone. These beads, for her, were filled with curiosity & magic! She stared in wonder at the multicolored pillboxes & felt the glass relief on the decorated pillow beads. With delight, she rolled the tube beads between her fingers & though she had never told a soul, she believed the large amulet bead in the middle had the power to bring her good fortune.
These are her gypsy charms, more alluring then the sparkle at the bottom of the Trevi fountain. They vary in size from the largest (amulet in the middle) at 22 x 12 mm to the smallest end beads at 14 x 10 mm. The entire strand stretches 10 3/4 inches. |
