Larry Scott's Class ~ April 2007

This is Larry ~ posing for the picture (what a nice guy).  It was a treat to be in the presence of Larry this last weekend.  He's funny, intelligent & very thoughtful regarding the types of beads he makes.  He's got a lot of things down to a science & it was stimulating to hear how he came up with many of his designs.  Larry's been at this gig (making beads) since February 1993 so he knows a lot!  And he owns cats, which is cool.

Here are some of Larry's Byzantine beads (he calls them Byzantine because they are needlessly complicated, there's something like 400 dots on each one).  Every time a teacher comes to town, they bring an inventory of beads to sell if we wish to purchase as mementos of the class (& just to have such fabulous little pieces to show off & keep forever & ever) ~ I bought one for myself (picture below).   Larry made 600 sets (one large bead & 2 smaller ones) of these particular beads for the Bead & Button Commerative bead a couple of years ago.  I think of his commitment & patience & I am in awe.

Larry making his "Night Sky" bead ~ celestial with lots of depth.

Some of Larry's "torus" shaped beads.

I instantly took a liking to Larry's steel Mudpuppy glass rest ~ he's so cute.

Larry Scott's dots ~ lots & lots & lots.

A photo (courtesy of Larry) of a close up of the Byzantine beads.

These are the beads I made in the class.  I learnt some new techniques & had a lot of fun in this class ~ a special thanks to Kathy at Bedrock Supplies for bringing Larry up to teach!

Here's the picture of the bead I purchased from Larry (top one).  The other bead was one of Larry's demo beads (he calls it a hobnail bead).  He gave away all his demo beads because he rocks!
