Continued...
The next day we landed in Puerto Vallarta. Chris & I went off on our own excursion on a catamaran to do some more snorkeling & to visit a small fishing village, only reachable by boat. This is the village & it's called Yelapa.
This was probably my favorite trip. The snorkeling was wonderful with lots of fish & only one jellyfish encounter. When we got to the village, Yelapa, we walked through it up to a waterfall in the jungle. And on the way up were many interesting things to see, like this strange little building without windows that is both an internet cafe & hotel.
Here's a poinsettia tree - cool!
Of course, a lot of things to shop for on our way up to the waterfall - this place had a variety of jewelry, bowls & clothing. Unfortunately, my waterfall shots didn't work out so I can't show you them - it wasn't that impressive anyway as it's the dry season now, better to go in July or August they told us. After stopping at the waterfall, we strolled across town to a beautiful beach & relaxed in some chairs by a restaurant. The waiter there made us a "Coco-loco" - a coconut he cut open with a dull machete right in front of us & then took away to dump a lot of watered-down booze in it (I think?). It wasn't a very tasty drink, but boy did it look good!
And, of course while sitting we were approached by several locals wanting to sell us things. The only thing that caught my interest was an opportunity to hold a very large iguana & get my picture taken with it.
This photo cost me $5 - cheesy but fun & since we were right by the spot where they filmed "The Night of the Iguana" back in 1964, it seemed appropriate.
Back in Puerto Vallarta, Chris & I went across town to this charming Mexican restaurant for dinner. Then we strolled down through an art market towards the beach. Along the promenade were lots of colorful sights - including these balloons.
Then we noticed these guys climbing a pole & playing flutes & drums on a platform at the top. Shortly afterwards, they tied ropes to their feet & twirled upside down to the ground.
Back on the ship for the last 2 days of cruising. Here's a couple of photos of us at night.
My mom, Judy.
Chris & I
My one & only regret, I didn't get a group shot of all of us, so I can't show you my bro & his family. I was a little lazy with the camera & didn't bring it around much while we were all together on the ship. Oh well, it was a really great time & I would definitely like to go back & spend more time exploring Mexico. I'm sure Chris & I will be dreaming up a vacation in the near future. |
