Like the picture on the home page, this is the desk where I make all the beads. There's lots of glass rods, a vent that goes directly out of the house (for all that silver fuming I do), a miniature television, my kiln on a shelf near at hand so that I can put the beads in as I make them. Directly above the kiln is a poster of Kristina Logan's beads. She is an amazing lampwork artist! My fire extinguisher is attached to the wall - luckily I haven't had to use it (knock on wood). There's lots of things on the table, but you can't really make them out from this photo - basically; my torch, glass rods & stringer, bead stamps, tools, dichro glass, elbow pads, mandrels & my glasses. On the ground you can see my propane tank, behind it is my oxygen concentrator & right beside the propane is my "glass garbage" which is where I toss all the tiny bits of glass that I can't use - it's getting very full. Anyone wanting some bits & pieces of glass? Might be handy for kaleidoscope makers??? |

Now turning clockwise - this is the closet where I keep all my glass, bead release, enamels & frit. At the bottom you might be able to make out that orange bag on the right. That's full of peanuts for the blue jays & squirrels. I have a gang of birds & two squirrels that come by each day & stare in at me or squawk for peanuts so I have to have them nearby. |

Right behind my desk is a work table where I dip my mandrels, clean beads & string beads. There's a dremel on the far right with a stand for it that Chris made so that it sits up high & makes it easy to clean beads. On the left wall is a striped piece of material that I picked up in Zanzibar for a couple of bucks. I really like it but I got some water on it & now it's stained so I had to fold it up small to hide the stain & the only thing I can do with it now is hang it. The mask is also from Africa & the painting in the middle is one my mom did of a lion at an alter & two zebras. My studio is filled with things that I think are special! |

Continuing clockwise, this book shelf is on one wall & has glass bead books & magazines, bead packaging & photos. Do you see the green box with the red thing in the middle, on the 4th shelf? It's actually a wine box but I use it for beads & it's pretty much full. Some of the beads in there are broken, some are bad experiments & some are odd balls waiting to be strung together for an auction...one of these days. On the top shelf beside the plant that is almost about to engulf the book shelve, is one of two speakers in the room. |

Finally, in the other corner is my cat Maggie's roost (Nu, the other cat, doesn't care for it?). Maggie sits up there when I'm in the room, that is if she isn't outside. You can see a closer look at my desk too & of course the patio door which Chris & a few of his friends put in so I can look out at all those hungry birds & squirrels. Actually, Chris set up my entire studio, the vent, the speakers along with a volume control knob right at my desk, he put a fan in above, drywall under the carpet so that if hot glass falls it won't ruin the floor, bought me the television for watching movies & even built a deck outside the patio door! There are many more things that he did to make the room just right for me. I can't thank him enough!
Well that's the "virtual tour" - hope you enjoyed it! |
