Reid Park

We went to this park every morning before the show.  We packed up a little breakfast from the hotel & some coffee & we would walk around in the park for an hour or so enjoying the warm sun ~ the sun up here just doesn't pack the same power.  I think what I liked the most about the park though were the birds - egrets & a blue heron, swans, grackles, hawks...etc.  The best were the mutant mallards though!

We discovered this motley group near a smaller pond.  It appears that the male mallards have been breeding with the white ducks & have produced an offshoot of albino-grey mallards.  Do you see the brown-white-grey mallard on the right in this photo?  These mallards are breaking all the rules!

Here's a picture of our table at the show & below are some close-ups.

The show was quite interesting.  On some levels, it's really not my bag - I prefer to be behind the scenes rather than up front with the public.  I'm kind of shy by nature so this was a little challenging for me.  Still, it is great to have human contact after being buried away in my studio for so long & we were very, very lucky that we were sitting next to so many amazing & talented people.  There was Fran & Judy from Class Act Designs - they sell handmade silk ropes.  Extremely cool Anne Mitchell & the super inspiring Kate McKinnon, extremely talented metal artists.  There was Sue Knopp who is an innovative enamel artist & her wonderful husband Dave.  Sweet Jennifer Ionta from Spotted Moon Designs & her fun loving husband Aaron.  Wonderful Nikki & Vikki from Capricorn Imports, super fun twins that sell fine silver jewelry from Mexico & Karen Nan who makes beautiful dichro fused hearts & is an extraordinary wire artist, not to mention a beautiful & kind person.  Those were just the people right close to us, there were many more that are so talented, informative & friendly, especially the gifted Lisa Kan & superstar Kelly Russell who makes outrageously beautiful fine silver beads - wow!  These people really made our time there special.  And some exciting news - we were asked to be in a bead magazine.  It should take 6 months to a year before we're published, but when it happens I'll update you on it.  As for inventory - we're pretty much out of bead sets - I have a few miscellaneous beads left that I'll try to make into a couple of sets for sale here & we do have some wonderful jewelry still left so if you are interested in jewelry email me at carrie@beadtree.net & we can set up a time for you to view our pieces or, if you don't live in Edmonton, I can send you some photos of what we have left.

Well that's about all I'm going to say for now - I've gone on long enough.  Just to leave you with a final picture.  This is the patio at the show where I ate my lunch every day.  It was such a wonderful spot where you could enjoy the sunshine, the birds singing & a cool breeze.
