The Great "Ceiling
News" Contest
Does the media only know how to
focus on tragedy? Of
course it's important to report terrible events because for many of
us, these events affect us directly, but sometimes they can be
overwhelming & discouraging & in that discouragement we forget
that there are good news stories out there too. Lately, I have
found there is a big imbalance this way & I NEED to hear some positive things
going on around the world so that I can replenish my spirit.
Therefore, what I propose is for you to send stories to me about Great
Things that Are Going On! So, you'll have to pay attention to the positive stories floating around, great events
that are occurring, things that inspire, or give hope, or make you
giggle with delight! It could be a wonderful website, a great
quote, a positive story about our environment or humanity, some tips
on feeling good or doing good deeds or being more conscious about this
beautiful earth...the sky's the limit. The only rule, this
"news" has to be current. If you send me a minimum of 3 good
news
tidbits, your name will be automatically entered into the contest.
When it is finished, I will randomly pull one of the names out of the
hat for a prize!
For example, here are my
"ceiling news" pieces:
-
History in the making:
Last year, 50 pure-blood bison were released to roam free in the
grasslands of Saskatchewan, 150 years after being hunted to the brink
of extinction! The bison release is part of a plan to save 50 of
"Canada's natural masterpieces". Pretty darn cool! Read
more
here &
here.

One of my amazing
customers, a jewelry designer named Mary-Elizabeth Eddlestone,
bought some beads from me last month & with several of them, she
designed a stunning necklace & bracelet set that once sold, all
proceeds will go directly to support cancer research. She wrote
to me to tell me that she would like to dedicate the set to both her
father (who passed away from cancer) & mine! Isn't it great to
know there are people in the world like Mary-Elizabeth? Her
thoughtfulness & generosity has touched me deeply. Her website
(still in the making & soon to have photos) can be viewed
here.

Every
year, at Christmas, I give my nieces "the gift of conservation".
I donate some money on their behalf to symbolically adopt a polar
bear, a turtle, a boreal forest, a tiger...etc. At first I think
they thought this gesture was kind of lame, but soon they started to
really appreciate it & they actually get excited now to see what
they're helping to protect! This program is really, really cool
& it's a great alternative to the onslaught of toys & gifts that
sometimes overwhelm us (both in purchasing & in getting). Check
out the "Winter Adoption" program at
World Wildlife Fund & in Canada at
WWF. I just purchased my gifts for them 2 days ago &
they arrived today ~ now that's service.
-
Do you know that looking
upward towards the sky is supposed to lift your mood? I tried it
today when I went for a walk & I think it worked!
-
I found this quote to be very inspirational:
“Everyone has a purpose in life, a unique gift or special talent to
give to
others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to
others, we
experience
the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the
ultimate goal of all goals.”
—--Deepak Chopra
Here's the prize:
Heart Pendant Beads!
And the winner is
Christina Vandervlist ~ congratulations Christina!
